I am confused between berkeley, santa cruz and ucsb.. i need help...
i really dont know what to do...something about berkeley set me off before last year it was my dream school i m just happy that i got in lol... i am one of the top 12 at my campus but i was still scared i wouldnt get it...but now that i got in...i m seriously confused... i might pick santa cruz over both cal and ucsb...

thats right it was the environment of berkeley that set me off..noisy...ugly housing arrangements soo distracting..and campus in the middle of the city ...not my thing... but i dont twant to regret either... i m completely messed up.... i need help

i am an econ major i just saw the world class rankings of economics department...
cal ranks the 3rd.
ucsb ranks 34
ucsc ranks 44!!!!!! they are miles apart in rankings but still one of the top 50 worldwide!!!! i m not looking to work with power/money mongering financial institutions on wall street...i might endup working for peace corp then something inline with united nations...

If you really don’t like Berkeley (the city, housing, etc etc) then there’s no point in laboring in it for 4 years. Go with the college that you feel you’ll be able to stay for 4 years.

Really don’t pick UCSC. If south side scares you, then just live on north side. Berkeley isn’t in middle of the city, it is a typical college town. We are next to big cities, but that is about it.

Good thing the OP didn’t get accepted into Harvard, Yale, Columbia or other schools in city settings with social and crime risks. Not sure why the Cal environment justified skipping over UCSB to pick UCSC, since it would hardly be an urban setting.

To themystic … if you wanted to work on Wall Street then UCB would be your only choice … I was with a bulge bracket Investment Bank for many years and we only recruited from Ivys, UChicago, Duke, Wharton, Stanford, & UCB for undergrads and MBAs … since Finance or Management Consulting is not your goal, the college where you will be happy and do your best is the right choice …they are all quality institutions … regarding the setting, just check google maps and it is easy to see the level of urbanization surrounding each campus …

berkeley is filled with bums

i have 20 days to decide i guess i’ll visit berkeley again…and UCSC i should know after that…i just dont want to regret… does anyone know which school provides an opportunity to do undergrad research?

Ankur, *** is your problem? are you even in college yet?

Berkeley most definitely provides opportunity for undergrad research. USCS might too but it will be nowhere near as good/impressive as Berkeley’s.

honestly if you can’t decide then you’re not looking for berkeley/ don’t really know what berkeley offers you. better off at sb or sc, more fun there for sure.
