i have a confession to make. half the reason i applied to penn was because of its name. frankly while all the college mothers are cursing me for selling my soul to the devil, i feel confused. am i not right in choosing a school for its name and academic/soc oppurtunities as one of the best in the country. ivy league. ok, why not use the name. im not dead set on an occupation(though id love to do govt. intel), so wouldnt it make sense to go to a school where the name will help in almost any career i go into? am i wrong for choosing upenn partially for its name?

Many people do it. Especially Wharton. Once you get out of Wharton, it's almost guaranteed that you can garner a six figure salary within two or three years. (assuming you were a relatively diligent student) No other undergrad business school can boast that. Hell, Wharton has a 5 year MBA program and only 3-4 people take that option each year; the undergrad business school has that good of a reputation.

Personally, Pton loves kids from my school, and Harvard loves kids from my school, since they've seriously accepted almost everyone that has EVER applied there from my school...and I, at the risk of sound like an absolute pompous a**, am pretty sure I could've gotten into either one if I really wanted to...but, neither one of them has Wharton, and neither one of them has Huntsman...and, neither one of them will ever be Penn...if you seriously are somebody who factors in the "name" that much on your app, maybe you would've been better off applying to HYP...but that's too late now, ain't it?

You're a nice gal, but saying that you can probably get into HYP ****es me off. Amazing people from my school- one girl was 2nd all state (texas) in violin with great grades; the other was a seimens regional finalists, prob valedictorian, 1560/800/800/790, 2 sports, two published research papers, best overall student in our school w/ a median of 1450 for the SAT: both got deferred from Harvard EA.

it's not the name that makes the school, it's the school that makes the name.

It may be true some of the time, but not all of the time. Berkeley is sometimes touted as the best university in this country. However, the name recognization is due to its grad school and outstanding research. The undergrad reputation should not accompany its reputation. I don't know whether it's true or not, but I have friends at Penn who say that Wharton, while indeed amazing, is overrated.

Dusk...I am saying it because it's true. I dunno why they like the school so much. Over the past five years, kids from my school apply to HYP and get accepted, with below the par stats (testing)...but as long as they break the 1400 and is in the top ten, the kids always get into HYP...sorry that ****es you off...it's a mystery to me, too...it all started w. one harvard admit...she was top 10, and had like a 1410...and then...yea...they always take at least two kid each year...meh. I know that a lot of ppl that should get in, and they don't....but...meh.

so in conclusion....george bush is the antichrist!

or not 000000000000000000

what are the 0000000 for?

to make it 10 characters...

You went to Penn for the name? The worst thing about Penn is its name- "University of Pennsylvania"? It's confused with its neighbor school-which-shalt-not-be-named waaayyy too much. I would understand if you went for prestige or reputation, but name seems a bit fishy :p

yeah i agree with u on the name thing. but collegeville is nowhere near philly... they are not neighbor schools. its just a horrible misnomer that both of them have the word "penn" in them... when clearly one is <state school="" name=""> and the other is PENN.
and living in PA makes it worse. i think 40% of people react with "congratulations! what campus??"</state>

haha, yeah, a bunch of hicks in the end......well hopefully your/my future bosses will know the difference......come on they have to! right?

shorty, you think living in Penn is bad..

At least more than half know the difference. Here in Texas 80% think that Penn=PSU.

My aunt from North Carolina gave me a Penn State Sweatshirt for christmas.

HA HA HA that just struck me as absolutely hilarious for some reason.
noone in my family except for my mom and dad even know what Penn is. they're all starving/freezing to death over in siberia.

Geez, you're Russian? Odds are that you are attractive- I know some Russian girls here :P

shorty... if your response wasnt so disturbing, i might laugh. lol. actually the ivy league makes quite a bit of money on its overshore sales of sweaters and other college paraphanalia.

hahah yeah i was born in the ukraine. and im attractive unless u listen to pandy (but he's gone for a fewdays)... r u talking about russian girls in texas? cause there's a LOT more in the northeast. soooo many russian people live right around philly.

i was being slightly melodramatic... theyre not REALLY dying. we're funneling a lot of money over there to keep that from happening.

yeah man, word. my mom's been funneling money back to the PRC fo' eva. so its all good bro. i know a hot girl thats part ukranian....but uh my past relations with russians havent been so good, apparantely, 1. they like to tattle tale in the 3rd grade and 2. they're very fond of nuclear proliferation.

haha sounds like someone had a traumatizing experience when they were about eight... i'll see if i can inveigle you into liking russian girls again.
whats PRC? i bet this is some really obvious acronym but i cant figure it out right now. partially cause im on so many drugs (...for my excruciating migraine...)

People's Republic of China, right?

yo shorty, where do you live? here are my guesses: richboro, bucks county, northeast philly, marlboro (although its kinda far away from philly)?
