Anyone here go to SMC? If so, what are you majoring in and where do you plan to transfer? Perhaps we can all schedule a meet up or something.

I’m going to be attending SMC starting this upcoming winter session.

Majoring in Poli Sci.

I go to SMC. I’m majoring in econ and I hope to transfer to UC Berkeley, if not UCLA as a Business Economics major.

Cool cool. mordecai, are you taking Poli Sci this upcoming semester? I will be taking a Poli Sci class this winter and I hear that it’s pretty good. PM me if you want some information on it. sleeper, is it your first year here also? It’s my first year and I find the curriculum to be very interesting, so I’m kinda glad I ended up here instead.

Yeah, it’s my first year here, but I took classes at another college throughout high school. The only thing that annoys me about the school right now is the financial aid office and the long commute.

Ugh I know, tell me about it. What’s your schedule looking like right now? Are you in the Scholars Program?

I had to drop all of my courses a few weeks into the semester because of a family issue, but I’ll have a nice full schedule in the spring (and will still transfer in two years at that).

I’m applying to the Scholars Program for the spring because I missed the deadline for this semester. Still waiting on a letter of rec from an instructor at another college, though. Are you in the program?

Oh, and your commute must be a lot of fun coming from the valley. :)

Haha, yeah the commute isn’t the most pleasant. Well at least at 6 am. the 405 tends to give me some leeway-on the way home at 3pm, however, is a different story. I too dropped a class, (I had an A+, but there were personal issues). Yeah, I’m in the Scholars Program, and it’s great! You really get a more intellectual learning environment, and it’s a little more competitive so you can kind of in a way prepare for the four year education. When you ask for counselors, make sure you go to Marina! She’s a sweetheart, and really knowledgeable. Oh, yeah I wanted to major in Econ, but I figured I was just doing it for the job possibilities and not because I actually like it-although in this current situation, that may not be the smartest thing to do. It’s funny because now I’m on a Communications/Philosophy track, and although they may not be the most marketable or job catching majors, it’s something I love to learn about and something I will enjoy.

Hi guys!
I am in SMC and my major is Mathematics.
SMC’ Scholars program looks pretty cool and it is much easier than other colleges’ program, but If you guys are not really confident on transfering to UCLA(or UCI, or Pomona College)…then don’t take it. Since the Scholars program doesn’t work for UCSB/UCSD/UCD, it only increases the possibilities of lowering your GPA(A= 95% or above).

btw: do u guys know the easiest course for IGETC AREA 3A(Arts)?
I’m planning to take Art 72…but my friend told me that Theater Arts 5 is pretty easy…

Yeah, I’m in Scholars ENG 1 right now and it’s a piece of cake, so far at least. But I definitely understand where you’re coming from- I’m shooting for UCLA Comm Studies or Pomona Philosophy, so we’ll see. I think I’m going to take Music 36 for IGETC 3A. It’s a class on the history of rock and roll, so I don’t think it could be too hard.

I took Western Art History at another college and it was fairly interesting (but a bit boring).

BTW, where did you hear that an A is >95%?

Yeah, I have never heard of that. I just assumed that an A in Scholars is an A in every other class in the history of education :]

i think mistycoast is just talking about m32 scholars. in m32 with martin… if you wanna get scholars credit you have to have at least a %95 but youve got to do a 15 page extra report which will easily give you the extra %5… generally even more.

M32? I’m guessing we’re talking about Music 32, correct?

Honestly, the only real perk for me about TAP is that you get to sign up for classes before everyone else. My major is so competitive at UCLA that I hardly think it will make much of a difference if I don’t keep up at least a 3.8 (currently maintaining a 4.0).
