I was accepted to Smeal (still waiting on SHC), and my interviewer mentioned the Sapphire program. I checked the site, and it has yet to be updated for fall 2013 applicants. Any idea when this happens? Would you complete the Sapphire application only after choosing Penn State definitively?

Not sure when the website/application is updated but last year my son applied in early March and was offered a spot in the program on April 12th. He applied for and was offered the spot in Sapphire before he accepted admission. Were you able to log into the application? As an FYI the application requires 2 letters of recommendation and my son had them geared toward how he had demonstrated leadership.

Thanks for the info. I’m not sure what you mean by log in (and I definitely haven’t). Is it something on this page [Sapphire Leadership Program — Penn State Smeal College of Business](http://www.smeal.psu.edu/uge/sapphire), or would it be appearing in the My Penn State portal?

Thanks again for your help

Here is a link: [How to Apply — Penn State Smeal College of Business/url. Click on “Sapphire online application” and it brings you to the WebAccess login. I actually just did this and it doesn’t look like the 2013 application is up yet. See this link from a discussion last year: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/penn-state-university-park/1276215-sapphire-leadership-program.html?highlight=sapphire](http://www.smeal.psu.edu/uge/sapphire/how-to-apply). If you don’t get an invite you can still apply - my son didn’t get one last year and was still accepted into the program.

Hello!

We’re glad to hear of your interest in the program! We are sending out invitations to apply within the next two weeks. In that time frame, we will also post the application on our website, [Sapphire Leadership Program - Home](http://www.sapphireleadershipprogram.org). As Theojohn stated, you need not be invited to apply in order to be considered for the program. Applicants are accepted on a rolling basis and you can apply even if you haven’t definitively chosen Penn State.

This year’s application will be similar to last year’s – the essay questions will be slightly different but the other requirements will be the same. If you have more questions feel free to post them here or send an email to sapphireleadershipprogram@ gmail .com. Thanks!

I’m glad to see Gus Colangelo is head of the program. The was without a doubt one of my top 5 favorite professors at Penn State…maybe top 3. I remember doing some team building exercise that revolved around white water rafting (this was all on paper, in a lecture hall). When my team made a poor decision, and according to the exercise, we all fell out of our raft, Gus took out a big squirt gun (think SuperSoaker…) and started squirting us with it. I guess thats what we got for siting in the front row. Never the less, was a pretty good lesson in consequences…

Hi all,

Just wanted to share that the 2013 Sapphire cohort application is now available online at this link: https://php.smeal.psu.edu/sapphire/leadership/index.php

Students who have been offered admission or accepted into Smeal are welcome to apply. Admission is granted on a rolling basis. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.

Additionally, to clarify, Gus Colangelo is no longer the head of the program as he resigned from his post as associate dean at the end of 2012. Smeal named Jeff Sharp as the associate dean for undergraduate education. Sharp is another great faculty member and is a huge supporter of Sapphire’s initiatives!

Has anyone received an email invitation to apply to the Sapphire program?
