About a month after i was accepted into Smeal I got a letter for the sapphire program. I have read up about it but the site gives little information. I was wondering if anyone here who has visited the school, go to the school, have children at the school, ect have any information about the Sapphire program. I have e-mailed them and I hope to get an answer back soon. I would really appreciate any information on what the program exactly is or any other types of information.

thanks

OK for anyone interested I got some information. Smeal has about 5000 undergrads and each year they enroll 80-100 people into the sapphire program. I am actually surprised. I didn't think that this was that selective. i thought it was just a thing a lot of kids got. If there is anyone in the program please say how it is.

otherwise what are the benefits of honor programs in general? I didn't really consider it when applying. What is really the difference in general b/w regular and 'honor' programs? I don't want to be isolated from the rest of the student body but that is the impression I am getting with seperate dorms. I would really appreciate anyone who can help in any way. Thanks!

The Schreyer Honors program at PSU allows students early registration priveleges. They have first choice of honors classes. Students are required to take a minimum number of hours of honors classes per year, usually 1 to 2 honors classes per semester. The honors courses offer smaller class size and more in depth coverage of subject material. Generally, honors students live in either Atherton or Simmons. However, honors housing also houses about 30% non honors students. Also, honors students can live in other housing if they so choose, including special interest housing. You can find out more info at the Schreyer Honors College website.
