Sarah Lawrence Transfer Chances

Hi everyone! I'm a freshman at UC Riverside and I'm looking to transfer to Sarah Lawrence next year. I was accepted at Sarah Lawrence my freshman year, but I went to UCR because they offered me a full scholarship. I finished up all my General Ed's this year, and I would love to go to SLC for my upper-division work.

These are my high school stats, EC's, etc.
- GPA: 4.27 weighted
- Editor in Chief of Yearbook
- Vice President of Theatre Program
- 5 School Plays
- California Scholarship Federation Lifetime Member
- National Merit Scholar
- Top 3% of Class
- AP Scholar with Honor
- History Day State Finalist

My SAT's were a 2190 but that's irrelevant.

So far in College:
- GPA: 3.92 (Two A+'s)
- Honors Program (community service)
- Undergraduate Research

I'll have one really solid letter of reccomendation, and the other is up in the air.

Thanks so much for taking time to look at this, responses would be much appreciated.

you should get in

Sounds like you're a shoe in . When will you hear back?

I won't hear back until April. Thanks for the positive feedback!

I applied to Sarah Lawrence as well. I called the Admissions office today, and they said transfer students won't hear back until the first week of May! did you hear anything?

I haven't heard yet, and I'm quite disappointed to know it won't be until May that I do. =(

You hear anything? Did anyone get anything from SLC? I"m freaking out here...

I haven't heard yet. The admissions office said first week of May, so we should get our info by Wednesday, hopefully.

I went online to check today. They don't post the actual decision, just a "checklist" of all your application materials/ fin aid stuff. I have all of my forms in but yesterday three new items were added to the list....1) An "entrance interview" 2) I-9 Employment form and 3) a Stafford Loan application.....I'm so confused. I called up the fin aid office today to ask what these items were for and they said they didn't know. I don't understand why they would add these things UNLESS I had been accepted but, when I called the admissions office they wouldn't tell me. The women said that it could have been a glitch, and that everyone ( no matter what their admission decision) has a fin aid package prepared for them. I know it's not their policy to tell people on the phone, but WHATS THE DEAL?

Wait, where do you go online to check these things?

Nevermind, I found it on My SLC, and I have the same three unchecked boxes. Don't really know what's up.

So, I got wait listed. Anybody else hear back?

I was accepted. I just booked a flight to NYC for next Friday ... the plan is to visit SLC that day and hand them the deposit in person if all goes well. I tried to contact them this past Friday (the day I received the acceptance) and got no answer -- since this is Memorial Day weekend, I won't hear back til Tuesday, and we're supposed to decide by Friday! If they won't accommodate my visit then I probably won't attend, since they're the ones who got back to us so late and are leaving us four business days in which to contact them with questions and decide. I'm really frustrated that this process is so rushed, especially since I was forced to send in a deposit for another school while waiting for SLC (they wouldn't give me early notice despite other schools' reply deadlines). I had honestly ruled it out until I got the letter, and this is all happening so fast I'm afraid I'll make the wrong choice. But it's a great school and a great opportunity, so I'm gonna give it a shot.

Sorry to hear about your WL, redbravo. Good luck!

Yeah! I totally understand your frustrations. I currently attend a school with no campus/ no dorms. So I have to sign a lease for an apartment and according to the wait list letter I could hear back as late as "the second week of august"!!!! that would leave me two weeks to accept, ditch my apartment, and move over 3,000 miles. Obviously, I don't want to sign a lease without knowing from SLC, but I also can't wait until a week before classes begin to move.

As much as I love SLC, their transfer process is infuriating. I was originally told that I would hear during the first week of April, and it was continually pushed back until now. Now that I've been placed on the wait list I'll have to wait upwards of another two months! They have not been accommodating or even particularly nice.

make sure to let us know what you decide. good luck!

I got accepted and have 100% decided to attend. Sent my deposit in on friday!

And I'm sorry to hear about that situation redbravo. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Redbravo:

I just got back from my visit to SLC and have decided to attend. I'm not looking forward to calling Whitman and telling them I'm not coming -- they were so nice to me -- but from the research I've done and the people I've met with, I really feel that my career goals in acting and writing will be better served by a Sarah Lawrence education and the connections it provides.

I have good news for you, though! When I was lamenting having to call Whitman and tell them I'd changed my mind, I was told by the SLC admissions office that they were getting a higher-than-usual amount of students doing the same thing because of the crazy freshman admissions this year. Apparently when Harvard accepted 200 kids off their waitlist, it sent ripples through all colleges. This means SLC will be accepting more people off the waitlist than they usually do. If you really want to go -- pursue that waitlist! Ann Fountain in admissions was very nice and helpful to me, so you may want to email or call her. Good luck!!
