Sarah Lawrence vs Fordham

For a student who is very liberal, opinionated, and non religious, but who wants to be in the heart of city life who feels that the only choices (out of several other tiered schools) are possibly these two, could she be happy at Sarah Lawrence? It seems like it is only a 30 minute ride to grand central station.

I am so concerned that her pro choice, feminism and gay rights ally, will ostracize her at Fordham. It is so hard to understand how much religion permeates throughout the campus (dorm life, dinner conversation, classes, friendships). Subtle discrimation is seen across the spectrum of college life. Are non religious kids at religious schools really at a disadvantage? Do professors at the religious schools cringe when class conversation and papers clash with the school motto?

I wish she had gotten into NYU or Barnard....but didn't. So now I am trying to see where she would fit.

sarah lawrence, fordham is a catholic school

Sarah Lawrence sounds like a perfect fit. She will be able to go into the city on weekends, but it won't be a distraction. Fordham does not sound like a school where she would be happy, and Sarah Lawrence is stronger academically.

i agree with sarah lawrence. while fordham is certainly not discriminatory, religion does play a larger role on its campus than it would at sarah lawrence, which has a reputation for being liberal and hippie-ish. it also has a lovely campus and is quite close to nyc.
