Sarcasm in the Common App Essay: how bad is it?

For some odd reason I can only write in either a robotic, emotionless, dead serious tone, or an over-the-top-dripping-with-sarcasm tone. I just can't write casually with a little bit or humor sprinkled in. It comes out one way or the other.

At the moment my essay is pretty much loaded with sarcasm. I thought it was pretty funny when I wrote it, but I don't know what an admissions officer would think. It's not an obnoxious type of sarcasm, its more like something you'd read on the onion.

I think if it’s very well-written, and it is your style, then your essay would still be fine.

Also it depends on what you’re being sarcastic about.

I’ll read it and comment on its appropriateness if you want.

Yeah… That essay was going nowhere so now im starting a new one about how I play the drums when I start to lose focus on an assignment and how it gets me re-energized and back on task or something.

I do play the drums when I lose focus on an assignment, but it doesn’t actually get me back on task. I usually end up playing for an hour or two and never finish the assignment, but who cares? It sounds plausible enough. And I have nothing else to write about.

Let me know if you have any suggestions on what I should do with this new essay. I have only a few hours to write it seeing as the deadline is January 1st and today is December 31st… So much for that new year’s eve lotus show…

edit
lol wow i just realized how ironic this essay is… I abandoned that other essay when my friend came over to jam and now I’m writing a new essay about how that helps me get “back on task”
