Hi, I'm interested in the Rutgers Honors program at the School of Arts and Sciences. My SAT is very high but my GPA/class rank is below the cutoff (90th percentile). Assuming I have solid recs and EC's, what are my chances for admission into the program?

GPA: 3.58 UW/3.74W with the majority of classes either AP or Honors
SAT: 800 CR 730 M 780 W

you should be good! ur sat is good, but to be guaranteed u need to be top 10%. but, many people in the honors program nominated themselves (i think u need a teacher rec or something, it’s not hard at all) with much lower grades.

yeah im sure ur good. i had… 200 SAT points lower than u and still got it. my GPA was about the same. 3.6 UW gpa. if ur not top 10% i believe ur essay comes into play. good luck!

First, recs and ECs are irrelevant. The only thing that helps or hurts is going to be the essay.

Second, be aware that the majority of SAS Honors admits are from the guaranteed pool. The program is very small (I believe only 250 people per class). So work very hard on the essay.

Depending on your HS they may cut you some slack. To students from top magnet schools they would offer Honors and merit money with rank below 50%.
