Hi! I'm actually an international student from Southeast Asia. I have taken an American's standardized test called SAT and received a score of 1570 at my latest result.

I'm actually aiming for the top public colleges in the states (especially University of Illinois (UIUC) or any other Public Ivy schools, I would like to know if there's any possibility to apply and get accepted.

Meanwhile, I have participated in many extra-curricular activities. I was a representative at my school's student government and a president for two clubs. I am also a musician at my school's music events. (extra-curricular counts?)

I took one AP (out of two available APs at my school) and received a score of 4. But that's basically all I have with me right now. Please let me know I can still aim forward for the top colleges (that means, top 50-100) best or not. Btw, I have taken SAT again and I'm aiming for at least 1800+ this time.

You can google for the “Freshman Profile” at each school you’re considering.
Try to make sure you go to the school website for the most up-to-date info.

A 1570 is not going to cut it. My son has a 2300, and his admission to many of the top schools is still extremely doubtful. Acceptance rates are just 10%, and just about everyone applying is a good applicant.

You dont even know if he got rejected yet. You’re acting like all he has is the SAT, as long as everything else is fine he should have a decent chance, with the exception of HYPSC

@indianguy. floridadad is bragging lol? All he is doing is pointing out that even with an extremely high SAT score, it is still incredibly hard to get into some of the nation’s top colleges. please don’t post unless it is something logical.

@boonboy a 1570 composite score wont cut it for any of the public ivies, particularly university of illinois. If you can get a 1900+ or even a 2000+, you will have a much better chance

@indianguy - That made no sense at all. A 1570 is way below the average at any of the top 50 schools and in the bottom 25%ile for the next 50 schools. This is even lower for international applicants I believe.

I agree, a 1570 will not cut it. The national average is around 1600;however, if he does achieve a 1800+ on his SAT, then he has a chance of getting into UCD and most school’s below it. I would also like to point out GPA and major are aspects that admission officers look for in a student’s resume.

1570 will definitely not cut it at all. It’s just wayy too low. There probably are people who get accepted with a 1570, but without the writing section…

Try the ACT. Anything over a 23 is better than your SAT score.

Some colleges take a lighter view on the sat since you are an international student (english as a second language). The toefl should make up for your low score as well as a high gpa and ecs. At least that is some of the information i’ve been told by my counselor since I am an international applicant myself.
