SAT 1570, but could be 1600.....

DC took the June SAT and managed to get an 800 V (surprisingly) and a 770 M (dropped a silly question). While DC is not necessarily able to replicate the verbal score, DC was fairly consistently getting an 800 M on the College Board practice tests. Is it worth it to retake the SAT to be able to superscore to 1600? DC is fairly confident this could happen, but is it worth it?

Not worth it at all unless DC (?) is applying to MIT or Caltech.

No…she can find better uses of her time.

A 1570 will not keep her/him out of any school. Work on something else.

For sure there is no difference between a 1570 and 1600 as far as school admissions goes - the only question I would think through is: if your child does not try again, will he/she always “woulda coulda shoulda” about it? If not, forget it completely and move swiftly on. If so, you might as well take another swing at it. But it would be purely for bragging rights and to check off a box in his/her own head.

Conversely, if the score drops as does happen at the high end of the scale, will your daughter be very upset and determined to rectify what she sees as a problem. Remember those sleeping dogs. Beyond that, even if the score does improve, what is the meaning of that score within the entire context of her application. Is it really worth the time and effort. Finally, different versions of the tests are used at each setting such that she will not be in a position to correct the problem items.

Perhaps he/she can take the math SAT II and get an 800.

If you are a West Wing fan, I remember a scene where Jeb Bartlett said he got one question wrong (which he felt he got right) on the SAT and retook it and I think it was Leo who was incredulous.

It was Stanley.

@happy1 You forgot the key takeaway - he got the same score on the retake

@skieurope Sounds like it is time for me to queue up those West Wing reruns on Netlix! LOL.

absolutely not worth it. after 1550, it is splitting hairs

You’re getting the right advice and there’s literally zero possible benefit to re-taking. 800 is not different from 770 in this case.
