~SAT 2 Biology Review Thread~

im pretty sure it’s auxin
elongates the opposite side of the leaning direction for the plant appendage
(not sure if that explanation makes sense in type^^)

if 10 mL of salt in a bag with a permeable membrane is placed in a beaker of water
what is the water in relation to the bag ? (____tonic)

hypotonic

which organelle produces hydrogen peroxide?

Peroxisomes…

I. Acoelomate
II. Radial symmetry
III. Cephalization

Cnidarians are characterized by which of the following?
Flatworms are characterized by which of the following?

Cnidarians…II
Flatworms…I and III

and by the way what is peroxisome, ive never seen that organelle before on sparkntoes or barron’s

also mollusks were the first coelmates

in what phase of cell division does crossing over of the chromatids occur

Good job!

Peroxisomes are like lysosomes except they produce hydrogen peroxide. It’s pretty much the only thing I remember that is significant.

Chromatids don’t cross over. Homologous chromosomes do. And it would be Prophase I.

What type of plant is involved in nitrogen fixations?

Analogous structures show which type of evolution?

What is the resting threshold for humans?

I. Acoelomate
II. Radial symmetry
III. Cephalization

Cnidarians are characterized by which of the following? II
Flatworms are characterized by which of the following? III

Both are pseudocoelomates not acoelomates.

that exact same question is in my barrons book and it says flatworms are acoelamtes and this is a question i have been having difficulty answering

bats and chimpanzeesare classified in the same class for all of the following reasons except for
a)it has hair
b)it suckles
c)it forms eggs with diploid number if chromosomes
d)its young are developed internally
e)it is warm-blooded

Hmm… strange.

I have no idea, how are we supposed to know that. Well actually I think it is C because eggs don’t have a diploid number of chromosomes until fertilization.

well yeah that sounds right, but i dont know if it means a fertilized or unfertilized egg

I think they mean unfertilized b/c they said “form.”

ok, so to start up this forum again

what type of behavior is it called when baby ducks follow the first thing they see

Is it imprinting?

yes it’s imprinting.

Hey guys, one quick question, do we need to know all parts of the brains and all the lobes of the cerebrum ?

well, i know the parts of the brain, but ive never heard anything about knowing the lobes

well i think you have to know that:
cerebrum: 5 senses, thinking, learning
cerebellum: coordinates movement, balance
medulla oblangata: digestion, breathing, swallowing, etc.

yeah, thats the basic stuff i know

OH yeah, I know those stuffs but i just don’t see it in Barron’s book so I am confused whether or not it will be on.

There are 5 lobes of cerebrum (is it 5 or more ? I am not sure), do I need to know them too ?

Yeah it’s not in Barron’s. It might be good to know though.
