"Sat 2 - Biology" Study PARTY

Yea, they're included in the 60 core questions. In reality, there isn't too much to study for for those types of questions, as the questions tend to be relatively easy (on the actual test). Most practice questions dealing with experiments from non CB sources are actually much more confusing or complicated than what you will see.

Yeah they can. I don't know what to say about preparing for them, but it should be like a normal question.

In the June 2008 test, there was a graph with blood types.
One question asked about which person was the sickest. You had to recall that a spike in WBC meant an infection in order to pick the correct answer.

o_o

Haha about the Barron being dry (it really is). That's why I am doing Sparknotes for now. And Barron's test are way too unproportionally hard. =) BEST OF LUCK TO ALL TAKING BIO IN ONE WEEK =D

Thank guys!
What's the difference between secondary and tertiary protein structures?
I'm kinda confused...

if im not mistaken
second is when the protein structures are combined via hydrogen bonds
tertiary is when they are affected by heat and abnormally twist, creating distinct proteins that do specific things.

I have a question. This is from Barron's practice test 1.
Q: What type of organism helps green plants absorb nitrogen from the soil?
a. Lichens
b. Other plants
c. Fungi
d. Bacteria
e. Viruses

The answer is D, but i think it's A. I thought lichen meant a mutualistic organism consisting of fungi and algae that helps absorption of nitrogen.

Can you guys explain this for me?

It's bacteria. It converts free nitrogen into NO3 which plants can assimilate.

Lichens are involved in succession, not nitrogen absorption. That's why you need PR; it has a more detailed explanation of the different cycles, whereas Barrons simply summarizes each cycle in a few sentences.

How many questions can you get wrong to get 800 generally?

let me reword my questions. What should my raw score be to get 800?

You can miss ~4 to 5

REALLY? I thought it was like getting 2 or 3 wrong

Bummmmmmmmmmmmmp

Barrons gives you all the information for any possible situation. It is just not in a very memory friendly format. In the taxonomy chapter they mention nitrogen fixing bacteria.
