There isn’t a disccussion for the SAT II Chemistry test on June 3, so I decided to start one!
do you know if the Kaplan SAT Chem book is accurate whatsoever. theres a bunch of stuff in there that doesn’t seem like it will show up on the test (ex: buffer equations). Should I bother using this book?
@redhead347 In my opinion, Princeton and Barrons is my go-to for any SAT subject tests. They are always accurate and helpful.
hey @gkdudtlffj also did you learn solution and precipitate colors for chem, or did you just do flame tests and H2S tests
@redhead347 AP chemistry never covers colors
@redhead347 I am sure you have to memorize those for the SAT chemistry test.
Yeah, Princeton Review is pretty good. I wish they had more practice exams though…
What should i expect in the actual test if my practice test score from PR is 700?
@Newton112 700. PR is pretty accurate. Some people score 800 on PR and get like 760 on the actual exam so you better start working!
Wait, what are flame/H2S tests? My teacher has never mentioned this. Solution/precipitate colors too. It’s not in our last unit, so we wont ever get to this topic.
@Hamlon the tests are given at the end of barrons and they might come in handy during the actual test just give it a quick go through.
Do we need to know the nernst equation for redox and henderson-hasselbach for buffers? it seems like something that probably won’t show up.
@Hamlon My AP teacher didn’t either. Those flame/H2S tests are not in the AP curriculum for chemistry so it’s one of those things you have to study outside of AP.
@redhead347 I would just memorize the equation and know the use for it. If the book has it, there’s probably a really good reason why it’s in it.
Personally, I took the Chem SAT along with the Math II during January because that was when AP Chemistry taught me electro chem. After that I just did practice test and practice tests. My first test was in a PR book, I scored a 590 on the diagnostic test and thought “Jesus how am I going to get a 750+ (my initial aim for the science subject tests)”. So I reread through what I got wrong and went through the practice problems on each chapter and then did the final 3 practice tests at the end of the book. (Note I had almost a month after winter break started before taking the test). I then did the same thing for Baron, and then the same thing for Kaplan. My scores did improve, but not by so much, after I went through the third book, my last test score was a 740. I was still a little shaky on it. So I decided to take some actual collegeboard released exams. Surprisingly, I scored a 790 on that one. So then the test day came and I took the Math II and then the Chem and after comming out of the testing room, I was like “I got this I got this, LETS ****ING GO”. A month later, I woke up one school day morning and turned on my laptop, I looked at my scores and smiled. I got both 800s. And in my mind, I was like “wow, my first subject tests were both perfect, this gonna be a good year”. Now I’m prepping for the Physics Sat this August. And yes I will repeat the same process I did before. Good Luck to those doing SAT IIs!!!
TL;DR take a diagonostic test for the corresponding subject, evaluate, go through each chapter + the chapter exercises, then go through the last few tests in the book. repeat and boom, you get that thicc 800.
Has anyone done the ARCO test for chem? Is it easier or harder than the actual test?
@jsca17 its harder than the college board released one I cant say for sure cause I haven’t taken a real one yet but around 2/3 of the stuff on there is definitely fair game for the test
Does anyone have a list of topics that are on SAT 2 but not covered in AP Chem. Trying to get some last minute studying in. I was dumb and didn’t start before today.
I am taking SAT Math 2 and Chem tomorrow. Any idea which (am I given a choice to decide the order I take the tests?) should I take first? Thank you.
How was the test? easy or hard?
It was okayish. What did you guys put for the double bond on question two? Then, what did you put for the hydrate one that lost 9g of a .05 structure?
