**SAT 2 Chemistry Discussion Thread May 2017**

Hey, all!
How’re you studying? What scores are you looking for? Etc.

Alright, I’ll kick us off!
I took general chemistry at my local CC this semester. The class ends next week, so this SAT was a good bet for me (although June might’ve been better for review purposes).
I’ve spent the last few days reviewing from Barron’s, and my practice tests are around the 740 mark.
I’m in it for the 800, but 750+ would be juuuust fine. Studying for this test has been a great excuse to learn more chemistry.

@OMPursuit All I’ve done was taken a Princeton review practice test from the year 2013-2014… I hope the test hasn’t been redone since 2013.

I have taken AP Chem this year, but we did not cover nuclear/radioactivity and organic chemistry. I am kind of going to neglect these subjects and just see how I do. Got lots of APs these two weeks, 3/6 done.

I’m also not really going to memorize anything. I’ve seen a couple questions on names of laws like Bohr’s, Debroglie, etc, and that bothers me quite alot. I think it would be impossible to get an 800 without memorizing useless names like that. We should just be able to apply the laws imo.

@AimingTop50 That sounds like good prep! I think you should at least memorize the has laws/gay-lussac’s laws, as there’ve been questions on those in every practice test I’ve taken. The most useless memorization I’ve done has been molecular geometry, seeing how even Barron’s leaves out the disphenoidal.

My biggest problem is with acid/base theories and equilibriums. My class never properly covered them, so I’ve been teaching myself. XD

Since the chemistry test is infamously hard, I’ll be just fine with a score in the mid-700s. I’m more of a math guy m’self, anyway.

@OMPursuit If you have questions on Equillibrium and acids/bases, message me. I have covered them very well and am a Chemistry/Math guy.

Just this memorization stuff is killing me

Boyle’s is p inverse to v, charles is v proportional to t, gay-lussac is p proportional to t.

I obviously know these relationships because PV/RT = n, I just need to put the name on them.

@AimingTop50 Totally! You should also remember that Gay-Lussac has two laws, the other having to do with molar quantities of gases and stoich stuff. I wouldn’t mention it, except at this point I’ve seen both referred to interchangably as ‘gay-lussac’s law’ and if I hadn’t known my head would have spun. XD

Also, thank you! Thank you very much! You may regret that offer, because I can be pretty clueless about some of the T/F/CE stuff (at least in Barron’s).

@OMPursuit Good luck.

@AimingTop50 You too! :slight_smile:

Lol it was hard

Did anyone else take the Chem Subject Test today?? and how did you think it was?
What’s a good score?

I got a 780 on my first practice test, but I think some of the questions were really tricky on the real test.

It was lots easier than I thought it’d be!
Unfortunately, this lead me to become complacent and run out of time on the last ~14 problems before the T/F/CE (I started from 101). So long, perfect score!
If it’s too low I’ll just take it again, haha. I bet I can nab an 800 with a few months’ practice.

After just taking the ap Chem test on monday, this was honestly one of the easiest Chem related tests I’ve taken. So many of the tricky questions I’ve already seen via tests by my ap Chem class. I was kinda shocked to see no nuclear or organic. Hoping for that 800.

Yeah thank god there was no environmental chem, organic, or all those laws because I didn’t know any of those things. But some of the T/F/CE was pretty difficult. I had no idea that H2 gas was produced when Na reacts with water. @OMPursuit @Dewzeph

@mikayla1 Yeah some of the t/f/ce were really bizzare, luckily I watch an unhealthy amount of Chem videos on YouTube so I had a good idea of reactions and stuff.

Yeah, I sure am glad Barron’s has such a thorough review of Oxidation-Reduction. Not to mention that one with fluorine and chlorine… @mikayla1 @Dewzeph

I’m surprised significant figures were even on the test after all the orgo in Barron’s, haha

agreed

Yeah I’m fine with Redox Reactions, but I never learned Orgo or enviro in my chem class.

This Test was pretty easy today. So for the special format questions when do you circle CE? I mean if both are true and the second one explains the first one but do you also circle if only the second one is true but it would explain I if the correct I statement was there?

@Traiton17
No, you only circle CE if both are true and the second one explains why the first one is true.
