Hi,
I hope to major in science, and I’ve done pretty well academically: I got a 2220 on the SAT, a 5 on the AP Bio exam, a 760 on the SAT 2 Bio exam (which doesn’t really matter anyway b/c of the AP score), and I think that my GPA is around 4 (I haven’t calculated it exactly) and that I have a good class rank (I don’t know it yet). In my sophomore year, my chemistry class didn’t give me a good background in chemistry, so b/c I don’t want to take Chem 1 in college without having learned chemistry properly, I’ve been studying chemistry this summer, mostly with the aid of a SAT 2 Chemistry book. But I don’t know if I should take the SAT 2 exam, b/c I’m not sure that I know the material well enough, and especially because I wouldn’t be taking it until the Sunday test date of Oct. 11, so I don’t think that there will be time to find out my score before I would send it to college (I’m applying to Rutgers early action). I’d really appreciate some advice!
I forgot to mention that I’m not concerned about getting into Rutgers, but about scholarships - I’m really hoping for a large academic scholarship, and I don’t know if a good score on the SAT 2 Chemistry exam would enhance my application enough to help with scholarships.
Well, you don’t need SAT Subject Tests for Rutgers. If you still want to take the Subject Test, take a practice test first. If you score well, take the official test. If you end up applying for schools that do require subject tests, you’re probably better served having the second one be math or humanities, since you already have a science.
Congrats on great scores on both. An AP score does not take the place of an SAT Subject test for the vast majority of colleges, FYI.
