SAT 2 Importance

Hey,

I just got my SAT results back, 720 Bio, 710 Chem and 700 Lit.. I also have a 2250 on the SAT 1 and at 45 IB Prediction.. Will these scores hamper my chances alot???Will the admissions office still consider me? Im very scared..

First of all you double posted lol
Second I think it depends on the rest of your stuff. Your SATs aren't especially high and probably won't do the persuading, but I doubt they'll hamper your chances.

correction--your SAT IIS
my school doesn't do IB tests, so i'm entirely unfamiliar with that and can't tell you.

No, the SAT's and SAT II's are a little overrated on this website, DO NOT think for a second that they will affect your chances. I thought my 670 lit would hurt, but apparently it didn't. I have a friend who had a 580 chem and got into Cornell RD, and another friend with 600 physics and 680 mathII that got into cornell ED (i know, different school, but still). Anyway, don't worry about your scores, they are just fine. (Also, plenty of kids on this site weren't accepted with higher SATs)

I took three SAT 2's for a combined 2200 (700, 750, 750), which i consider to be very good. But a lot of people hear would consider suicide if they got those scores back. Your scores are fine, you've just got to keep things in perspective. Reading the thread "OMG Should I Retake?"...then the person has a 2380 SAT, a 36 ACT (but they got a 35 on the Science) and a 780 Math 2. It's ridiculous, so no there's need to compare yourself to that.

retaking a 2380 is very ridiculous; retaking the ACT because he/she didn't get a "perfect" 36 is even more ridiculous... that's bad; I'm perfectly content with my 2270 and my 35

sorry, I just had to vent

your scores are fine...but I see one potential problem

SATs are standardized tests that are the only way that admissions officers can gauge your school

You are from London, presumably the one in the UK, making you an international (my apologies if this assumption is false) and you've been predicted the full 45 points. I'm sure colleges are aware that there are far fewer students who actually earn the 45 (only 80-90 people in the world per year?) than the number of students who get predicted 45. From my observations, the knowledge level to guarantee a 7 in HL Chem should score in the high 700's or 800 on the SATs (everyone at my school who's taken SAT Chem this year has scored 750+ with minimal studying).

But I'm sure Adcom won't really give it a thought if every other part of ur application is fine.

just my 2 cents

Acceptances are a crap shoot. Just put it this way. If you don't get in, it won't be because of your SAT 2s.
