**SAT 2 Literature Discussion Thread Oct 2015**

Anyone take the Lit SAT II today? I didn’t think it was too hard, though a couple passages were definitely tricky…

Yhyh I did it today, I thought it was easy too. Do you remember any questions? For the question about the social reformer, did you suggest that that she had ulterior motives and that one character did not understand what was happening? I wasn’t really 100% about that theme…

I don’t think I picked ulterior motives (can’t remember for sure) but I did choose that one character didn’t understand what was happening.

For the first passage: what’d you put for the meanings of sentence and knot? And for line 12 what the speaker expected to happen?.. Something like that. Those gave me trouble

The sentence = death, knot = marriage. In line 12 the speaker was anticipating her own death. What did you say her primary motivation was - I said she wanted to be remembered fondly, although she did mention that the husband should protect the child(ren?) from a potential stepmother.

Did you say that the bumbling of the fat kid contrasted with Mrs Chen? Wasn’t sure about that, because the kid definitely clashed with the mother but there wasn’t anything mentioned about cleanliness…

Or I’ve just forgotten what fastidious means. Sorry. But I think the answer was then the sympathy one?

I picked ulterior motives for that, for the passage about the piano/music teacher, what did you guys say about Mrs. Chen asking about the teacher’s education? I put something like taking control of the conversation.

Sentence+knot, i believe that’s death and marriage
Speaker expect to die for something similar to that on line 12

@youcanttrackthis i think yeah, it was everything except question, and i don’t see sympathy there

@youcanttrackthis sorry for the confusion, I picked sympathy, just that sympathy wasn’t implied IMO

The poem about the sea around us, did anyone say the sea is everything EXCEPT changeable? I think that was the answer

Yup definitely taking control of the conversation. Was it just me or was the paper really straightforward? No challenging questions --> horrific curve :frowning:

Yes for changeable

I left 6 blank, hoping to get less than 5 wrong

How many wrongs can I get for 700+? 6 blank and x number of wrongs?

Did you say that the passage was primarily melancholic and resigned? That the rift between the islands was due to divine intervention? That the people had an idea of a time they didn’t exist as individuals, or something like that?

Final passage - did u say the narrator was enticing and then enthralled? Or manipulative and then coerced? I picked the former because it seemed less strong, but wasn’t sure.

Did anyone start with 3 B’s in a row btw? i’m freaking out lol

I said it was nostalgic, since resigned didn’t make a lot of sense iMO but whatever, that was the only passage I hated

Yeah I started with 3 Bs. I’m pretty sure these are all correct, college board correct answers have an obvious feel to them, and there weren’t any questions where I was totally lost.

For the question about the mother and the spoil kid, did you say that standards were more lenient in her day?

Also, yes to enticing then enthralled

yeah to the standards in her days

Score curve is harsh, why did you leave so many blank? Surely if you can eliminate even one answer you’re better off guessing?
