**SAT 2 Physics Discussion Thread Nov 2015**

So guys how’s the preparation going on?
16 Days left…

Took the physics on October and received a 770 knowing I made 2 silly mistakes which could’ve been at least a 790. Planning on retaking for the 800, not sure what to study for at the moment. I kind’ve exhausted all my resources.

@Defeat Hey, do you think you could assist me with some advice? After studying with the Barrons book and understanding all of the concepts as well as scoring 800s on all of the tests, I ended up getting a 720 on October’s test. As someone majoring in physics, I was extremely devastated. Not only did my book not prepare me, but the test itself was EXTREMELY surprising as nearly all of it was conceptual. Also, it seems like its almost impossible to find an actual practice test that even somewhat relates to this horribly designed exam.

Do you have any advice with books, how to study, how to succeed under such a difficult time constraint, etc? Because, right now, I’m lacking confidence. Thanks so much!

@Anubis13

That’s an odd scoring discrepancy. I personally have never used Barrons, only the Princeton review which was actually harder than the exam we took last month. I recommend trying out the princeton review or at the very least, try the two practice tests included. Have you tried the official blue book physics test? I admit though, the test we took was vastly different in my opinion.

As for advice, I pretty much attempted all the practice tests I could get my hands on. I tried physics B tests and physics C multiple choice tests when I ran out of physics sat material. I always timed myself according to which test I took.

Hey guys, just decided today to take the math 2c and physics this novemeber. I was planning to do it in december but due to early admission at columbia im taking them november. Math 2c im pretty confident in but as for physics meh. Ive self studied most of ap physics 2 and im done gr 12 physics. I took the college board physics exam and got 750.

Will the barrons physics book be enough to get an 800 in 2 weeks with some history in ap physics 2? (Conceptually enough because ill have 12 practice tests to do)

@kentonpalmer I think Barron’s will suffice for studying the content. But I would suggest trying Princeton Review for the practice exams. I found those to be a better representation of the real thing than those in Barrons.

I found the content in Barron’s to be organised and presented well. But the practise tests look easy if you know the formulae and basic concepts. I found PR questions to be much trickier and conceptual.

@unready Have you already taken the test. May i know your score? And those of barron’s?

Okay yeah i figured barrons would be fine. Is anyone else taking math 2c with physics also?

I’m taking math 2c, physics, and literature. I basically have to teach myself everything outside of the standard ap physics 1 curriculum. It’s a lot.

I’m taking math2c,Phy & chem.

@guy6127 Yeah, I took the October one. Got an 800. The real thing is very conceptual. Just knowing the formulas won’t cut it, especially in the first section.

So would a combination of Barrons and PR suffice?

@guy6127 Yeah that worked for me.

Guys. I’m honestly freaking out. I’ve been doing Barron’s practice tests so far and I always get over 700. When I took the 2 Princeton Review tests, I found the first one quite easy but the second one extremely hard. I literally left like 20 questions.

I’ve never used Barron’s or the Princeton Review. Are these just review books or do they also teach general information on certain topics?

@Dodie99

Lol i wouldnt worry about the princeton review tests. Ive taken 8 barrons 4 kaplan all of which have been 770-800 then i got to princeton review and got 690 (distracted) and a 750. I looked through all the old forums and everyone says the actual is easier than princeton review. It should also be quite obvious that princeton review isnt accurate because you literally have to read an essay of a question which addresses an obscure topic. For example one pr question involved the inclusion of the concepts of mass defect and relativity.

@kentonpalmer Yup! The actual one was easier than PR. Expecting something around 750.

…even though I haven’t learned any of the optics stuff and half of the electricity/magnetism stuff, it’s still not that bad. At all.

All the best guys, I just took the test this morning (about 12 hours ago).
How did it go for you all? :slight_smile:
