How big a factor are SAT 2 scores in decision-making, or are they primarily for other reasons. I'm upset- I knew I did really bad- I got a 620 Writing, 690 US History, and 700 Literature. Those are my only 3 sat 2', i took them all in october and am applying early decision to cc.

Besides that, My highest math and verbal (took twice) scores were 710 M, 800 V.........
And another factor to be considered is many of my ECS (school newspaper, writing for a real nespaper) and teacher recs mention how I'm a good writer, so wont this seem incongruous and possibly make the rest of my app. look false. PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK

I don't know if they do affect the decision or not, but you're right, the 620 writing does look strange next to your 800 V and ec's. Was there a certain circumstance? Maybe you can add a note to the application explaining what happened.

Or, you can let your other great English achievements speak for themselves.

Well, I don't know- I thought I did fine on the writing section of what I did..but in the essay, I wasn't really able to answer question because
I didnt have time. It ended mid-sentence with a comma and I also had 5 blank at the end. Its weird- I got a 5 on the AP last year too, so I dont know. This is going to screw me over. I'm also worried because I have to send part 2 in relatively soon and my essay isnt that great i don't think.

I got a 600 on Math IIC. Long story short -- I got incredibly sick around the last hour, and Math was my last test.

I can retake in December, will this 600 affect me once I get a better grade (700+ obviously)?

Im kind of concerned since this test score was so incredibly low.

Freakish,

The only thing that I would suggest is to make your essay as good as you possibly can. You have no control over the standardized test scores and you don't know how Columbia will interpret them. I would think that the teacher recommendation commenting on your writing ability will be helpful but if you read these boards regularly you know that college admissions are unpredictable.

You said that your essay isn't that great. That is something that you have control over. Try to punch it up so that you are sending Columbia the best package of materials possible. Perhaps your school newspaper advisor or your favorite english teacher could look it over and give you their thoughts.

If my daughter's experience is typical, the essays are read with care....my daughter's adcom mentioned parts of her essay in a phone conversation with her GC after her Columbia acceptance.
Good luck.
