Hi all,
I am a current sophomore and am really interested in some very good schools. I know that I have to do really well on my SATs and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for the best way to prepare. My family does not want to get me a tutor because they think I don’t need it. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
Relax man, you’re only a sophomore. Go through the threads and guides at the top of this page as for how to study. Since you’ll be taking the new SAT, you’re gonna have to wait until at least March for other people to take the test. Then there will be much more advice and info for you to bank on.
Its great that you’re planning ahead, but just relax and enjoy your sophomore year while you can. Brush up on some math skills, and then start studying in the summer.

Go to a book store. Browse books (barron’s, kaplan, princeton review, etc etc, tons of books) and pick a couple you like and get them and study.
I definitely recommend sat tutoring. I went from 1340 on the old psat to 1900 on the sat. It translates to the new sat too because I attained 1260 on the new one. I don’t know how to compare the new and old tests, but I do know that was a significant increase. Plus a lot of skills I learned help with school too
Hi. It is always good to start early. I would suggest buying some books as well. Study them and if you think you are not able to understand certain concepts, reach out for some external help (tutoring, etc.). Also, try some practice questions on the College Board website - will give you a good idea.
