im technically a junior, but i really don’t have the time to study for the new sat in my senior year,
so I’m going to go ahead with the current sat.
I took this october test, and I got a score of 2270 with cr 770, math 800, and writing 700.
This is my second time taking the sat; the first time I took the test I got 2210 with cr 780, math 730, and writing 700.
I know that 2270 is pretty good, and that most colleges value reading and math scores more.
Also, my writing scores range about 700-740, so I’m not absolutely sure as to whether my writing score will improve if I take the sat for the third time. Still, it’s sooo close to 2300 that I feel a bit…unsatisfied. BTW, I’m aiming for colleges such as Cornell and Berkeley, and Chicago if lucky. Could anyone give me advice regarding whether to retake the sat or not?
No. Do not retake.

i know the risks, but people keep telling me that the difference between 2270 and 2300 is huuuuge.
Not sure what “risks” there are.
If u are seeking MERIT aid, rather than just FA, then why not try one more time. You’ve got nothing to lose.

My daughter got full ride offers and Ivy admission with comparable scores. You don’t need a higher score. What will matter is the whole package – what goes with that score in the rest of your application. A lot of places don’t even care about the writing score. Your CR/M is 1570 which is awesome!
I wouldn’t bother trying out the new SAT. If you want another “score” for comparison, try the ACT. My daughter took it without studying, but she said she wished she had reviewed simpler math beforehand to refresh her memory, as it uses easier math that she hadn’t done in a while. Even with lower math score than expected her overall result on ACT was about the same as or slightly higher than SAT, so she submitted both scores everywhere she applied.
You could take the ACT and if it is high, then you can submit that and the SAT score, or if it is low then just submit the SAT score. Taking the ACT gives you more control. By contrast, if you take the new SAT and bomb it, some universities will still receive the lower score when you submit your SAT because they require all SAT scores to be submitted if you submit one. So either do nothing, since your SAT score is great as is, or add the ACT.
I’d say retake because 2300 will make you rise to a totally different level. But only retake the writing section. (this shouldn’t be hard for you! If you want help with writing I can help you, since it’s my strongest subject)
30 points won’t do much, especially in the range you’re in. What matters most is the whole package, as @mommyrocks said. I would spend more time focusing on the other parts of your application because your score is great.
