SAT 2300 vs 2400

If you have a low 2300 sat but 2 800's on your second try. Is it worth trying for a 2400 on your 3rd or keeping it. I've heard that it really doesn't make a big difference once you enter the 23's. But I'm not really sure how true that is.

It’s not really worth it…

Thanks a lot, that’s what I thought but I wasn’t sure. I hear getting a 2250 is what you really need and if you get the 23 the rest of it hardly matters. Thanks!

I would even say past 2200s it doesn’t really matter. Don’t take it again unless you just want to prove to yourself that you can get the 2400.

too be honest, I would think that a 2400 is a beautiful number to place on the college application. People always say that 60% (or something like that?) of people get rejected from Stanford who have a 2400, but honestly 40% is a HUGE chunk.

If you think you can do it, do it. I’m at 2300, and I am retaking hoping for a 2400 (but more importantly because my math score was low).

A 2300 can be worse than a 2250: for instance, 800/800/700 isn’t as good as 750/750/750. If one of your sections is sub-750, there may be benefit in taking it again. 2400, though, doesn’t really mean anything (except bragging rights, but seriously–only baboons brag about SAT scores).

From a pragmatic point of view your score is fine. It is really all about you and how you feel. I’ll take the minority view and say go for it!

My D is in a similar situation. She got 800 CR, 740 M, 800 Writing (10 essay). She only missed 2 on the math portion. Originally she was going to re-take in March but now she’s saying she shouldn’t and instead she wants to concentate on her subject tests.

I’m not worried about my subject tests, luckily math and sciences are by far my strong point, but I’m awful at reading. The vocab really screwed me over on the most recent one. I think I did fairly well on the reading comprehension. I think I’ll just keep whatever I get, prolly a lowwwww 23. Thanks everyone!

2400 is nice but the only thing you gain is bragging rights. As marvin100 said, SAT scores are not worth bragging about and no one really cares after you’re in college. Better to focus on subject tests or the rest of your application.

Even if you take the test again, your scores won’t necessarily improve, and if they do, it will be very minimal

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!! Save your time and do another EC or take AP tests. I difference in a couple points will not matter once you are above 2200

If my math score is a 740, but I have an 800 in reading and a 780 writing as well as an 800 in Math 2 SAT 2, is it worth taking the SAT again to try to get it up? The only reason I got a 740 was that I accidentally omitted a question.
