I’m in the class of 2018, and I did pretty well on the current SAT that I took in December. However, I’m not sure if ALL the colleges I want to apply to senior year will be accepting the current SAT over the new SAT.
I know this might sound like overkill, but should I also take the ACT?
I don’t see any harm in taking the ACT. If you can at least get a 34+ it might open some doors. It would suck to cross a college off your list just because they won’t consider your SAT score. You don’t need to do any major ACT specific prep.
Don’t bother taking the ACT…statistically you are much more likely to underperform in relation to your SAT score…Unless you are absolutely certain you will earn a 35 or a 36 on the Science section it is not worth your time. The only reason to take the ACT is to prove your science acumen…Congrats on your 2350+ score!! My cousin earned exactly a 2350 (W:800 M:800 CR:750) and he got admitted to Yale University…My superscore was 2340 (single-session:2280) and it carried me far despite a pathetic 3.54 GPA with zero AP courses and weak ECs…A 2350 score by itself is a rarity of 1 in 500 students and virtually tantamount to a 147 IQ score…Just be proud and don’t bother taking the ACT
Check out this article – http://blog.prepscholar.com/will-colleges-accept-the-old-sat-for-class-of-2017-or-2018-30-plus-schools-interviewed. Although it looks like most schools will allow the class of 2018 to use the old SAT, Northwestern has stated that it will not and many others have not decided. If you already have a list of schools, you can check their websites and confirm that they will take it and be done. If you’ve got your heart set on any of the schools that haven’t announced, the ACT now (or during junior year) might be worth it just in case.
