Hi,

Only 2 SAT 2400 books are available at local bookstores - Kaplan and Barrons, which one should I get?

If you know any other companies whose books are substantially better, I can order them from abroad, but I wouldn't want to if it wasn't so much better than either Kaplan or Barrons,

Any thoughts guys?

I would say go with the Barrons version.

Here’s why: as a Junior, I’ve started working for my PSAT. I’ve bought all three- Princeton Review, Kaplan, and Barrons, and am actually in the process of buying the Barron’s 2400. I think you should buy the Barrons because it’s extremely difficult (I scored a 54 on the writing section of the Barrons PSAT against a 79 in the Kaplan one).

By studying the harder book, you’ll be better equipped for test day! Hope this helps!

I would go with Barron’s. Generally Barron’s over-prepares (as in with hard tests), but I have a Kaplan book and it has more errors that I would care for.

I have looked at Barron’s 2400 a bit and found their Writing section to be decent (though I prefer my guide’s grammar guide :)), but i have heard the Math section is just unhelpfully tough. So I don’t strongly recommend buying any of these books. Have you read my guide?

^lol, silverturtle.

Indeed I have read his guide (and have expressed my sincere gratitude and utter admiration multiple times already). No one missed it, don’t worry :).

^ My question was directed at Drelnis. By the way, did you participate in the 2009 Siemens Competition? I think I may have remembered seeing your name on the finalists thread.

You remember correctly. I participated but was never a finalist (but I did make semi though). Good times.

Good times indeed. And a very late congratulations to you on your semifinalist status :)

Um, thanks! Good luck to you this year if you are submitting something…

(To OP: sorry for hijacking the thread :P)

Drelnis: I bought the Barron’s 2400 book and found it very unhelpful. The vocabulary they tell you a 2400er must know is wildly unnecessary and the critical reading passages they give you for practice are extremely unrealistic. As per the comments above, Silverturtle’s Guide and the Blue Book are the way to go.
