SAT 2s and SAT essay

I feel like there’s conflicting information out there regarding SAT 2s. Davidson’s Common Data Set says that they are “recommended” but the website says “If applicants have taken SAT Subject Tests, Davidson welcomes but does not require those scores.” To me, those are different things.

Also, their website says “We do not require the writing portion for either the new SAT or ACT.” Yet, the CDS indicates that the writing component on the SAT is recommended. I don’t get it!

How important are SAT 2s and the SAT essay to Davidson if GPA and SAT scores are at or above the 75th percentile for admitted students? S19 will also have AP scores to self report (Lang, BC Calc, APUSH for junior year) and six more APs for senior year but, obviously, won’t have scores in time to report for application.

What is I made this a more general question (since I’m sure it’s not only Davidson that has discrepancies like this). Which information is more correct? What’s on the website or the CDS? And is the rule really to just call the school to confirm?

When in doubt, call! It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

@homerdog – you may be looking at slightly older information on the CDS. My D17 applied there and I thought that the writing portion (she took the ACT) was required. After taking the writing, there were lots of discussions on this site about the scoring inconsistencies. My D’s writing score was not at all where her other scores were. At that point, I wished that we had skipped the writing altogether. I contacted the school and my memory is a little foggy but thought that they said that they were going to drop that requirement (which would explain why you don’t see it on the current school website.) That was good news however, once you take the test, I think that writing score follows your on the score report (I don’t think that you can decouple it.

I would follow @sdteak’s advice and contact the school. Good Luck!

@thinmints Thanks! I’ll call and get an answer and post when I can. S19 taking SAT and schools sometimes have different rules for ACT and SAT!
