SAT 3x!?

Is taking the SAT 3 times okay? I'm planning on applying to MIT and I've taken it twice already (May 08 and Oct 08), and I'm somewhat content with my scores, except for CR in which I got a 600 my first time and 540 second time...

i'm taking my 4th in dec, and im not worried O_O?

^^ Ren, are you sure? I thought your chances of admission decrease if you take more than twice!

No, your chances of getting in don't go down if you take the SAT more than twice. What idiot told you that?

Taking it three times is totally fine. If you take it four times, they might start to wonder why you can get your act together (hahaha, I mean your SAT), but three times, they really don't care.

Three times is ok, but at four times things start to get fishy.

I say dont go more than 3

At gummycat: Read this:

http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/utilities/faq/admissions/tests/index.html

read the part about taking the tests more than once:

If a student takes the required tests more than once, which results does Harvard consider?
We consider a student's best test scores, but it is generally our experience that taking tests more than twice offers diminishing returns.

I don't believe they have idiots at Harvard writing stuff on their website :)

It says diminishing returns, not negative returns. Diminishing returns just means you will get less for your time/money investment by taking the SAT for a third time then you did the two previous times. The statement has nothing to do with admissions. If losing the $ and the Saturday is worth it, go ahead and take it.

It's usually recommended not to take the SAT's more than three times.

I took the SAT 3 times and went from a 1270/1920 to a 1510/2220 so as you can probably figure out, I'm really really happy that I did take it that 3rd time.

diminishing returns means that the more you take it, the less your score could go up and the less the investment is (in terms of how much money and time you've spent for those different times)

i think 3 times is a good accepted max, and 4 times if you absolutely have to try one more time (as in my case.. i got two 2040s and a 2120... i want a 2200+ [so that it is more equivalent to my 35 ACT and for national merit purposes], so i'm taking it just one more time)

Hi everyone,
I am a sophomore. It is my first time here..
I have a question about the SAT writing section...mainly the sentence corrections..
How do you improve the grammars?
Any advice will be helpful, such as what book should I buy, and how should I improve it?

I never took the SAT, but I took PSAT 2 times at my school,(i just took the psat last week), and i am very concerned about the writing section...

The more you practice, the more familiar you become with grammatical rules. You can also get a review book such as Rocket Review or something similar that tells you all you need to know in order to do well on the writing section.

thanks guys ;p one more round of SAT in december
