SAT/ACT Deadline for reporting?

Hi, I am a junior and a little confused about the system of score reporting and deadlines.

One of the schools I am considering is Caltech. On their FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions - Caltech Caltech Undergraduate Admissions) it states:

Can I take or retake the SATs or ACT after the application deadline?
You can, but the scores may not arrive in time for consideration. You should complete tests by October for Early Action and by December for Regular Decision.

I am considering Early Action but am concerned about taking the SAT in October. The college board states that if I take the SAT on October 6, 2012, scores will be released online on October 25th AT THE EARLIEST.

However the Caltech Early Action Deadline is "November 1 (postmark/electronic submission)
...for application and all supporting material". So what if my SAT score comes in later than Nov 1?

This situation does not only apply to Caltech Early Action, it applies to many other schools I am looking at as well. Many of these schools say that the October test date is the last one that you can test at for Early Action/Decision, but it seems like there is no guarantee the scores will come back by Early Action deadlines, which are generally around Nov 1st for the schools I am considering. Can someone enlighten me as to how this works?

Colleges with Nov 1 EA or ED application deadlines accept Oct SAT scores for EA and ED even if they arrive after Nov 1 and that includes Caltech. A number of them (but not Caltech) even accept Nov test scores for EA and ED.
