SAT/ACT Is there a sitting where more "average" kids take the test?

Don't worry about when you take the test. Just read and learn math to prepare.

for the progress some test-takers can make in a few years.

Actually, there once was a difference among the different test dates.

This is not a politically correct answer and I realize some may take offense to it. It is not my own personal belief, I am just relating what I remember hearing.

Twenty or so years ago the Oct. test was not offered to the students in the northeast (New England, New York, New Jersey etc.). That was simply not a testing date for them. The Oct. test was however given in the South. It was typically a slightly easier test. The rumor at the time was that they wanted to give the southern kids a test to take by themselves.

I even heard of some students that would fly down to Florida for the weekend just to take the test.

The Oct. test is now offered at all the testing sites.

Again, this is just something I heard at the time and I remember thinking it was strange.

The ACT is not offered on all dates across the country. Not sure why.

Written source for the factual statement in post #22?

"Written source for the factual statement in post #22?"

That would be hard to find, especially since TCB is claiming that EVERY test is equated to the class of ... 1946. As far as travel to a different state, east coast students might find Hawaii more hospitable, and potentially helpful for the SAT, if gamesmanship is on their agenda.

Sorry I do not have a written source. I suppose if someone has an old SAT sign up booklet that shows which sites tested on which testing dates that would help.

I went to high school in the northeast (in the 70's) and know that Oct. was not an allowed testing date for us. November was the first testing date of the school year that our state could take.

I worked for a major test prep company in the 80's (the company was actually quite young then). I was told there was an Oct. test offered to the kids in the South that was not available to the northeast kids. Again I have no written proof- just something we were told in the course of our work. I heard some of the students from our NYC office were the ones that would go to Florida.
