SAT/ACT score = HUGE discrepancy??

I studied insanely for both, and more for the SAT because I felt it was harder. My SAT scores were 1840 and 1860. O__O I took them in January and May, respectively.

My ACT scores were 30 and 31, taken in February and June.

Most people, I've been told, see their scores about the same level but my mom told me that an 1840 is like a 26 on the ACT. And I should've gotten like 2000 on the SAT according to the ACT.

It's weird because on the SAT, my math score was a 520 and 570. isn't a 520 like below average? But my math score on the ACT was a 32. My best essay score on the SAT was 11 but on the ACT it was 9. :(

I've come to conclusion that I just do better on the ACT and I'm done wasting time on a test that I can't do better on after studying so hard for.

My question is, should I even submit the crappy SAT scores to colleges? They say they look at the higher score so why bother putting down the SAT? I'm applying to schools in the East and I know that they're partial to the SAT but I'm hesitant to submit them because they're so bad. and i don't really want to take the subject tests.

Thanks! :) (btw i'm going to be a senior)

Why would you submit subpar SAT scores when it is not required by the college…?

Because apparently the East Coast favors the SAT… and they tell you to just submit all of them and they’ll look at the higher

I did not mean to post this in college life, oops. It was supposed to go under SAT/ACT prep but I had multiple tabs open, sorry! if a mod could move it or something that’d be cool

It honestly depends on the school. All of the east coast schools I applied to my senior year accepted both SAT and ACT scores. Unless the school does not accept ACT scores, you will not be denied nor will your application look worse due to submitting ACT scores rather than SAT.

Here’s the concordance, so you can see what on the ACT exactly compares to what on the SAT: [ACT-SAT Concordance](The ACT Test for Students | ACT)

As for whether you should submit the SAT or ACT… if they accept both, send just your ACT. Not both. They accept both, so no, submitting one over the other is not frowned upon, otherwise they’d only accept one.

Achievement vs aptitude… they’re not the same tests. Of course you shouldn’t submit bad scores.

Okay, thanks guys for the advice! I think I will just submit the 31 ACT score then. Which is what I wanted to do but my parents and I were debating over this. It’s a little depressing because I spent a lot of time trying to get my SAT score up.

I understand they’re different tests that test different things but I honestly did believe that any exam was beatable if you prepared enough for it.

-sigh- Welp, I guess I am done forever with these stupid tests! even though a 31 isn’t as high as i would’ve liked.

I was accepted to a T10 LAC with the equivalent of a 32 on the ACT. You will be fine. :)

You should be fine. An 1860 SAT and low 30 ACT are not bad scores at all. I’ve found that SAT/ACT scores really do not matter - they don’t hold much significance by means of predicting how you will do in college. I scored a 520 on the Math section with an overall of 1740 - both below your scores. But I have a 4.0 in all the Math/Physics courses I have taken (Precalc -> Calc3, Physics 1+2).

So you’ll be fine. Colleges don’t really read too much into those scores.

Does any one else have trouble with the ACT English section? My math/reading scores were pretty close on the ACT and SAT, but I cannot for the life of me figure out ACT writing. I got a 7 and an 8 on the writing section of the ACT, but a 780 on the writing section SAT (and a 5 in AP Lang).

I’m not looking for advice or anything–I’m about to start college in the fall, so it’s not like it matters, but it’s just something that bothers me.
