SAT/ACT Score sending- confusion in regards to college app deadlines

What exactly do college deadlines mean in regards to SAT and ACT score sending?

Since both organizations need quite some time after you press “send score” to actually get them to the colleges, will students be penalized if they send scores prior to the regular decision college app deadlines, but the colleges receive them after the deadline? What if it is sent (and not received) only 1 day before the application- does this make a difference in the way colleges treat your application?

In addition, if Harvard says that late January is the last acceptable SAT testing date for regular decision consideration, does this mean that I can take the January SAT date even after submitting my application, wait for my scores to be revealed by college board, and then send them later? Or is that the date by when all SAT scores must reach Harvard?

Thank you!

Of course not. You know all those shiny brochures that clog your mail box and the zillions of emails coming to you? That’s the schools’ efforts to get you to apply. They WANT to admit you – they’re not going to set up a minefield for issues out of your control to capriciously eject your application.

Remember this:
College to you: 4/5 years of discovery, maturity, learning and fun

You to college: 4/5 years of tuition & fees and future donations

You have a LOT of leverage. They’re not going to kill the golden goose.

For your 2nd question: yes, you can take the Jan SAT and have it part of your RD evaluation for Harvard if you have it auto sent. If u wait to see the scores and then order them sent, it’s unlikely they’ll be considered. This was affirmed at a large info session I attended: exact question was asked.
