SAT/ACT Tutors?

Are they worth the money, and has anyone seen scores go up drastically as a result?

Mine climbed dramatically over the course of my tutoring.

They vary tremedously in what they cover, charge & how effective they are for particular students. Ask folks in your area for most current info. My sister enrolled each of her 3 kids in a different SAT prep course. She said it didn't boost their scores at all; all did OK before the prep course & about the same afterwards. That was the experience of several of her friends' kids as well. I think it depends on what the kids' baseline scores are & why they're at that level. If it's low because you need help in a particular subject that wasn't covered well in your education, self-study or tutoring CAN help some.
My son never took any course & has always done pretty well on standardized tests. My friend's son increased his scores significantly from taking a summer course & got into his dream schools.

Would it be futile to purchase a tutor for the October 22nd ACT? I have approximately a month until the exam.

Also does the tutor come to a student's home or does the student meet the tutor at a local library or something?

For those have purchased an ACT tutor, is the master tutor just as helpful as the premier? Thanks.

It really depends on the tutor; some will come to your home and other's will require you to meet them in a specified place. Just be wary of the tutors that come from the Princeton Review/Kaplan - its a mixed bag with them.

Well, if you don't like the tutor, can't you just exchange him/her?

The point of the tutor is so he/she can specifically focus on your skills that need work on. If you constantly switch tutors, they will need to re-learn your weaknesses/strengths, and that it really is a waste of time, especially since the ACT is only in about a month.

If you want to bust the Ivy League, don't expect miracles from being tutored without doing a bulk of work.
Running a simple search could be a part of it.

When purchasing a tutor, make sure to look for sales. Used one could be a good buy too.
