Hello all,

Help a worried Dad out :) My child is in top 5 % of her class and 3.9 gpa 4.7 weighted. Very good leader, participant,
etc, etc Extra curricular es also very good.

She has done poorly her 1st time with ACT 23 without the writing calculated as yet and SAT 1470 with the writing. Always struggles with these types of tests. Tutoring as group for month before each test.

My question is if any admissions officers are reading this post could you please make a suggestion of the best way to inform Admissions Office of this type situation when applying?

Thanks so much
Morg
PS We are as well our child realists so have no delusions about Top Universities.

[The National Center for Fair & Open Testing | FairTest](http://www.fairtest.org) has an up-to-date list of test optional and no-test institutions.

I am more concerned though about this statement: " Always struggles with these types of tests."

You need to sit down with your daughter, her guidance counselor, and the school psychologist and talk about this issue. Three typical causes of this kind of discrepancy that would be worth investigating are:
- poor test-taking strategies
- test induced anxiety
- previously un-diagnosed dyslexia-type processing issues

Each of these has its own fix. Fortunately, your daughter is still in high school, and has time to get access to the help that she needs so that she develop the skills that best accommodate her test-taking needs.

Wishing you all the best!

Hi

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes I see my statement about always struggling may have been unintentionally misleading a bit. A more accurate comment would have been often the first time she takes something the results may not be that good. The next time later in semester say she improves nicely. But, those are routine HS tests and AP tests. In Fla. we also the Fcat. It seems to me ( an amateur) that the structure or design of SAT or ACT as well as some anxiety seems to effect her differently. We will certainly be meeting with the counselor and follow recommendations.

She carries sizable AP courses as well is National Honor Society, Nat. Spanish Honor Society, Figure Skater and instructor for 10 yrs so far.
Thanks again for the link to those other Schools
Best wishes,
