Sat/act

We just moved from Canada to US, my son is in grade 10 and will be taking his SAT in November 2011. I really want to understand about SAT/ ACT. Does he need to take both of them in order to get into college or SAT is enough. If he is taking in November of 2011, does he needs to apply by June 0f 2012 in order to go to college in 2013?

Either one is enough, but since the tests are different, some kids do much better on one than on the other, so many take both, and use the one they scored better on.

Depending on the schools, your son may or may not need SAT subject tests as well.

Not by June 2012. Most schools applications don’t become available to late Summer before their senior year.

It is a good idea to take both the SAT and the ACT since he might do better on one. You also need to leave time to take the test again if the scores aren’t what you think they are. Practice and studying can often lead to improvements in scores.

Take both exams.

Apply to colleges in the fall. Deadlines are often in Oct, Nov, Dec, and January…depending on the school and depending on whether you’re applying ED, EA, or RD.
