SAT and GPA question

Hi all,

I am applying to NYU as a transfer student. Also Im an international student. I am worried about two things. First, I think my SAT score might lower my admission chances. it's 1210(math 710, verbal:500) I took it right after the winter break last year without any preparation.

I know that NYU does not require international transfers to report SATs(plus I have been in college for a long time). besides, my sat score does not appear on my transcripts and I have never sent my score to this school before. Should I report it or not? Do you think 710 in math will lower my chances? I am applying to econ and math joint program.

Secondly, I think my GPA has a downward trend. It started with 4.0 and last semester I took 3 Bs in a row. Now I got 3.7 cumulative GPA. But this semester Im doing fine. Should I explain in my essay why I got such a low GPA last semester? and does anyone know where to get the midterm grades report form to NYU?

Thanks!

well what IS the reason for the downward trend in your gpa? cant reccommend whether or not you explain unless we know what your reason is.

i wouldnt be as concerned about the math lowering your chances as i would the verbal. even though you are applying for math-related majors, nyu students are well rounded and do well on all parts of the sat. the 500 in verbal is very very low. if i were you i would take it again, THEN report it.

Hi scrapnel, thank you for your post.

well, I actually transferred to my current university from the country where I came from. I am from a very little known former Soviet Union republic.
The reason was I took only upper level econ and finance classes during my first year at my current university. But last semester as a transfer student I had to take only core classes, including two science classes. I screwed up my science classes, but one of my science classes had a lab, which is one-hour class and I got b for the lab too. So on my transript it appears as a separate grade, which makes up to 4 Bs. Besides, during my first year I was fully financed by my scholarship, which was only for one year. Last semester I started to pay for my tution and fees on my own. So I started working part-time. I had less time to prepare for exams. But Im doing well this semester cause Im taking business classes again.

I am going to NYU, only because of Courant institute and its location.

I know that my verbal sucks, that's why I was thinking about not reporting it.

If you took the SAT, you have to report it as a transfer applicant. You cannot take it again.
