I have a 3.35 weighted GPA which is preety much a B+ and my SAT score was a 1460, a 520 on critical reading, 490 on math, and 450 writing. I am in many clubs including: Chess Club, FBLA, DECA, MUN, SHS, MHS, Apple federal Credit Union, Cross Country, Track, Basketball, and I volunteer a lot for track. I have one more year of high school and I was just wondering if I can get into schools such as JMU, VCU, UVA, Vtech, ODU, or any of these well known Virginian Schools. I also would be needing financial aid so which college would be the best fit for me?
I would seriously love any advice.

As harsh and mean as this sounds, the GPA and SAT score you posted make an admit at JMU, UVA, V-Tech or William and Mary very very unlikely (0%-5%). VCU, ODU, Roanoke, Radford or GMU would be much better instate options and likely admits based on your stats.

To improve your standing in the admissions game definitely consider retaking the SAT or trying the ACT. Your GPA is pretty much solidified at this point, but you could get straight A’s your first semester to pull it up a bit. You seem ECed out, so outside of that it’ll come down to your essays.

If you really want to go to either JMU, UVA, V-tech or William and Mary, my best advice is to finish high school strong (as in straight As senior year and a high SAT/ACT score), go to one of the lower tiered Virginia schools, do well (3.7-4.0) and look to transfer your second year of college. It is much easier transfer into schools like JMU, UVA, V-tech or William and Mary, than get in first time around.

Best of luck!

Thanks alot… I’m probably just gonna try to get into vcu hopefully but I plan on retaking my SAT and getting around a 1800-1900. I’ve been studying for months for preparation but I was just wondering. I really wanna go to JMU though…

VCU, ODU and Radford are your best options at this point. UVA, W&M and VT are not realistic with those numbers. I think GMU would be a bit of a stretch, but one never knows.

Well If i got my gpa to around 3.5 after the first semester of senior year… do you think i would have a shot at jmu
