SAT and PSAT coorelation

I've heard that theoretically adding a 0 to the end of your PSAT score would predict how you'd score on the SAT. I took the PSAT this october (as a Sophomore, if it matters) and scored a 225 (71 CR,80 M,74 W). I then took the SAT in December, before I'd gotten my PSAT score back. Since I had no idea how badly/well I'd done on the PSAT I spent quite a bit of time reviewing and studying. However, I found the SAT (especially the CR about the architect) quite a bit more difficult than the PSAT. Anyways, what I'm really wondering is what the chances are that my 225 PSAT would translate to a >2100 SAT. Thanks in advance.

You can find discussions of these questions by searching the SAT/ACT forum, which will give you a lot more information than you are likely to get on one thread.

The basic answer is that someone who scores a 225 PSAT should be able to make greater than 2100 on the SAT, but there are some differences in the two tests. The PSAT doesn’t include an essay, while the SAT does, as you know; it is also possible that the PSAT is slightly easier.

you should expect over 2250

The scaling curves on the SAT are generally nicer than those on the PSAT to compensate for differences in length/difficulty (mostly length) between the two tests. By design, your PSAT score (X 10) is a very good estimate of what you would get on an SAT taken soon after.

Based on your PSAT score, >2100 is very, very likely (unless there was a scanning/misbubbling error).
