I was looking through the existing forums, and there weren’t threads that talked about the recent August 26, 2017 SAT. I’m curious on what you guys thought about the SAT. Comment below
Hm. Not sure what’s ok to discuss and what is verboten. S19 thought both math sections were easy. Had time left over to go back and double check some answers. Felt good on Writing. Reading always his most difficult but finished just in time which is good. On some practice tests, he would have to guess on the last three to four questions without reading them.
D thought the test was hard, but math was mostly easy. She ran out of time in all sections.
D said she thinks all the SATs she’s taken have had the same level of difficulty.
She doesn’t usually offer much commentary, but said it was good when I picked her up. She didn’t finish one math section. It’s typical that she has a hard time with time on the math sections, so if that means she finished all but one of them completely, that’s good for her.
I will stop pushing my luck and not ask her anymore questions. Maybe Grandma will get more response.
I took the test today with the essay. I thought the math was easier than normal, while the reading and writing were about average. I am a pretty fast test taker so I finished all sections with at least 10-15 minutes left, but I can say the reading took me slightly longer than average, but I am feeling sick and drove far away to take it.
@ScootySpicer I know there were some CB practice tests with pretty rough curves on the math. Two wrong total (including both sections) was a 760 on one of those. Maybe this test will be scores similarly.
I thought the math and grammar sections of the test were easier than normal. I had enough time to finish and check my answers for both these sections. I thought reading was slightly harder than normal but that could just be for me.
@Youngju79 what were the other dates you sat for the test?
Funny-my kid said the exact same thing
feedback from my kid was that the test seemed easy except the 5 question grid in questions-thought he got 3 right for sure. LOL lets see what the score is!
This was the first SAT my kid sat for. His took it with the essay. He said math, grammar and the essay were as expected but there were some questions in the reading comp section relating to themes of the passages which he had never seen on any practice test. He is a rising junior. Is there any way to have an idea of how this will be curbed?
Many of my friends experienced the same difficulties during that sub-section. Potentially, and hopefully, there will be a more lenient curve.
My D said the same about the grid section.
I swear there was a typo on the math “bike rental” question in the answer choices. Otherwise everything felt good, I might get over 1500.
What did everyone think? I found the non-calculator grid-ins to be quite difficult, but the calculator section didn’t have any sections that legitimately stumped me. I thought the English passages weren’t too bad and that the Language section was the same that it always was. Hoping for a 750+ on math and a 650+ in English
I felt the reading and writing were very “average” in difficulty. The passages were actually pretty interesting for the reading which is always a bonus! The math was easier than usual but with 1 tricky geometry problem on the grid-in for the calculator part that required you to think a little outside the box. This was the first SAT I took and it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be!
I thought that the first two passages of reading made it harder than usual, the writing was on par, if not a bit easier than what I expected, and both math sections were much easier for me (though that is very biased as I’m very good at math). The essay was average.
I’m a rising junior as well and took the SAT for the first time today, I think that comparing the reading section to the reading sections of the eight official sat practice tests that the curve will allow for at least 1 wrong for a 40 and maybe skip a -10 deduction a couple points lower as well. I do agree that reading was a bit harder than usual; however, the other sections were as expected if not a bit easier overall in my opinion. But you never know as one question such as the grid in one on one of the maths sections could throw the curve off.
The reading had a few iffy questions that I could narrow down to two answer choices, but I was 60% sure that one was correct and 40% sure that the other was correct. I went with more likely one, of course, but they were probably one of the “hard” questions that you would see on Khan Academy. (The Barron’s review guides didn’t actually help too much, but the 6 Practice Tests from Barron’s was helpful in that the question formats were similar to the real thing).
Writing was mostly okay, finished with ten minutes left so I checked my work. Both sections of math were pretty easy, spent a couple minutes on one of the fill-in questions but figured it out. Finished both with 5-15 minutes left.
The essay was alright, but I didn’t really know how they grade it so I went with a formulaic essay (probably wasn’t a good idea, but I wasn’t sure what to expect).
I agree with @Anonymous11P. Noncalculator grid-ins were hard, but the rest of the math was a piece of cake. A couple of the reading questions were tricky. Hoping for a 1400 or higher, but to be frank this test seemed more difficult than the last one I took.
