SAT Black Book by Mike Barrett

So, I'm just wondering if anybody on here is familiar with this book and if it's worth spending $20 on? I've read the the Amazon.com reviews which are generally positive but people on here are a little bit more informed and knowledgeable on SAT prep books. I've watched some of this guys videos and he seems to know what he's talking about. But I want to hear the opinions of you people.

I can’t answer for sure but someone recently suggested my daughter use it to prep for the CR portion of the SAT which she is having a hard time with.

I thought it was rather helpful. If you want, I would recommend looking at the ebook “Grammatrix” which is also by Barrett, and seeing if you like it. I certainly credit the Black Book with boosting my CR (and Math, to a degree). For reference, I’m getting 800s in CR and 760+ in Math.

I’m a big fan. I’d recommend using it in conjunction with other materials, but its perspective and some of its strategies are invaluable.

It’s a good book, yes. In my opinion, it has the best strategies for CR of any of the available prep books.

Everyone is saying it has the best strategies for the CR specifically, what about math and writing?? I already bought the Black Book (And yes I literally have gone from missing an average of about 5-6 questions per section of 25 and after I read what he said about the CR in one day I’ve already gone down to missing 2-3 questions in a section of 25.) But is there something better for Math and Writing and if so what do you recommend?

Silverturtle’s writing stuff on this message board is better than any of the books, imo.

I prefer Erica Meltzer’s “Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar” for writing although it is more expensive. For math, PWN the SAT, many books by Dr. Steve and the prep book by Philip Keller are all good. I’d suggest staying away from Dr. Chung’s books, although you will find plenty of disagreement on that topic.

Alright, because what I’m looking for is a strategy book for math that analyzes the math section like the Black Book does with CR. I seem to be stuck on getting 650’s on the math and I would like to be able to get 700+ before I take the SAT on December 6th.

The Black Book is the best book I know of that fits your description. The other good books take a different approach.
