Hi. I have an older edition of The Official SAT Study Guide (The Blue Book)...it says the copyright is from 2005. Do you think it would be helpful for me to use this book even though it's not the most recent edition?

I was just thinking of taking older edition practice tests first so I could take the newer tests after I got used to the SAT test format and questions (so I don't waste the most recent practice tests)......i'm not sure if using the older Blue Book would help me prepare for the current SAT tho

thanks

The new blue book has 10 tests, 7 of them come from the old blue book. So IMO, it’s not worth it to get the new BB. Besides you can get 3 free practice tests from the college board’s website:

this is a general question for everybody. Do you think reading magazines and newspapers would really drastically improve the SAT Critical Reading Sections (I get 500s in the reading sections)?

Is Time better than Newsweek magazine…in terms of helping to improve SAT Critical reading…How about New York Times newspaper?

thanks again~~

I like Time a lot more than Newsweek. It might not have a lot of SAT words, but it’s enjoyable to read.

I would just go through CR problems repeatedly and buy Direct Hits vocab books.

so… do you think reading magazines and newspapers would be a waste of time and not help with improving SAT Critical Reading b/c i’ve heard people say it is helpful…but idk

Also, did anybody use the WordSmart vocabulary book?

thanks again

It would help, but not significantly. The Economist is a good magazine as well.

I find that reading books helps me more in terms of CR.

It helps only to help speed up your reading. However, when you can comfortably answer all of the CR questions within the allotted 25 minutes without rushing to finish, it will then have only limited uses.

Here’s a novel idea: look up all the words from the blue book tests that you don’t know. Insta-vocab list.
