SAT Books? Do not start new threads. Post HERE!

I was also wondering which math book I should get. Are “SAT Math Prep 800: Challenge Yourself to a Perfect Score” or "Dr. Jang’s SAT 800 Math Workbook " known for being good? They had good reviews but I’m not sure which one I should get, and I would appreciate if someone could help me decide.
Thanks!

hey guys.
i seem to be having some trouble with critical reading. I took my first SAT test on March on got a 520 on this section (pretty low). then i took the test again in june and got a 550. i am looking for a score in the 700 range. i am an all A student and take all advanced classes. does anyone have any prep books and a recommended reading list of books that can be helpful to really boost my score.

hey notwbog,
i’ve heard good things about The Critical Reader by Erica Meltzer along with her SAT Sentence Completion Workbook. idk, imma try that too…

i was wondering if anyone had some other resources for the SAT essay? Is PWN the SAT’s Essay guide good? Thanks in advance chiefs

I also forgot to mention that i’m a rising junior planning to take the last old SAT…

I would like to know if it’s necessary to get the Official SAT Study Guide Second Edition by the College board from 2009, in other words “the blue book”, if I’m going to sit the redesigned 2016 exam?

@Vintagey I also wonder this. Except, I believe the newest Blue Book is 2012, not 2009. But I’m also planning to take the old test this October then take the new ones from then on.

Ok, I’m getting the Second Edition 2009 copy of the Official Study Guide (Blue book).

I am positive I won’t be needing the extra DVD included in the 2012 edition of the guide. My main concern is whether I’ll need the guide as well since it contains “the official SAT exams presented by the College board”. Would that be really necessary since there have been such major changes implemented in the past few years and especially those planned for the 2016 exam?

@Vintagey I don’t think getting the old blue book will be of much help because of the major changes in the test. I will advice you wait for the new blue book if it hasn’t been already published.

It’s been published. You can get it now, but it’s currently only possible to backorder. But, I would advice you just go ahead and get the old blue book at Barnes & Noble for $12. There aren’t huge changes. Just vocab and essay. You will be just as prepared maybe even more for the new one!

I suppose the new one’s called “Official SAT Study Guide (2016 Edition) (Official Study Guide for the New Sat)” and from what I’ve heard the guide isn’t good at all?! There have been complaints that the tests are already available for free on Khan academy, along with the fact that there are no score conversion boards included. I am mainly interested in reading the tips and recommendations regarding the new optional essay. I am wondering if the upcoming Kaplan guide will have that section thoroughly explained… Anyhow, my main concern is whether the blue book, be it the old one too, contains any unknown information which would not be found in other guides.

This is some really bad information!

Has anyone taken a practice new SAT? I have heard it is extremely more difficult than the old SAT. Do you think it is worthwhile to take the old SAT if you are a rising junior? Does the blue book give you tips and information on what if covered on the SAT and how to prepared or does it just give the topics? Thanks

Got the new Blue Book 2016 Edition. It has four full practice tests in the new format - and answer explanations. Seems pretty good. The format is different, so I would not use the old book to prep for the 2016 SAT, however, the Math questions in the old Blue Book are still helpful - there are some different, however. The Reading and Writing questions seem easier, but I suppose it depends on each student’s strengths.

You can get enough practice for the new SAT at this link. http://www.■■■■■■■■■■■■/sat-downloads/ I think it includes the four tests available in the new blue book.

Is SAT II books different from SAT ?

Yep @Praful. Also it depends on the test since it is designed by subjects.

@Praful Yes they are totally different.

Hi everyone! I’m going to be taking the SAT next year, and my goal is to reach a bare minimum of 2200. I took the first practice test in the blue book and these were my scores in each individual section.

Critical Reading:640 Math: 730 Writing: 670 —> 2040

What are the best prep books to use in order to reach my goal? I’ve already read the black book, and although I used its advice, I had trouble raising my 2nd practice test’s SAT score. Ideally, I’m looking for a solid 720 CR, 800 M, and 730 W. I will put in whatever work is needed to get this, but I need some advice from those who know how I can rise to those scores. I’m looking for books that provide effective strategies, contain similar practice questions, and/or provide useful vocabulary lists.

Please comment down your recommendations! Thanks for reading!

@AmitL1999 WordSmart from Princeton Review is an excellent review for vocab in CR. Math requires just practice and practice and practice. When I was first starting (I scored 760/770 and scored 800 on both sittings of my SAT), I used Gruber’s SAT Prep for just its math tests. Excellent coverage, and good depth.
