I like the Mad Math Database books. They are 1000 questions sorted by category. The questions are generally harder than real tests. They are helpful for students going for high scores. This series also exists for the Math ACT and Math SAT II.
Hi, has anyone had experience/seen dr Jang’s new SAT 800 book? If so, are the questions very similar to actual SAT questions?
Also, does anyone know if the SAT English books by Elisa Meltzer are a good way to study?
Dr Jang’s book has very high quality questions (I have the book) but the problem is that it doesn’t do a great job of teaching the material, it just bad a crap load of practice questions
So currently in scoring in the high 1400’s and low 1500’s and was thinking about buying Barron’s 1600 because the questions I’m getting wrong tend to be the more obscure , tough questions. Has anyone used this book? Is it worth buying?
Yeh, I like Dr. Yang’s Math Workbook, because of the quality of the questions, and they are categorized with some very difficult questions. I am using this with students going for fairly high scores, along with Barron’s Math SAT Workbook. I agree that there isn’t much teaching material in Dr. Yang’s.
Not really, they have just updated old sat book a little, its Barron 2400
I most used the books I could find at my local bookstore, any ideas of places I should order from?
Hi! Does anyone recommend PR’s Cracking The New SAT Premium Edition?
Thanks!
Hi Guys I am new here. As a parent I have done extensive research on the vaialble prep materials for the new. The problem here is that most of the publishers have merely re packaged their existing material under the name " For the new SAT". The new SAT math in my opinion is a completely different test from the old one. The new SAT has 60% Algebra a s compared to 60% Geometry in the old one.
After an exhaustive review of the available stuff, I can say with confidence that the Baron’s workbook for the new SAT is a safe choice. Even better is College Panda’s book and workbook. Their compilation of 10 sectional tests in math is the closest you would find to the Real SAT and hence gives a fair evaluation of your performance
Without doubt use college panda book and sectional test compilation. baron’s workbook also provides a good review
Khan Academy is working pretty well for my DD’18. It keeps her engaged and focuses her efforts on the areas where she needs improvement. She has two work books, but she uses them less and less.
Has anyone used Khanacademy and the Official SAT book together? I have both resources, but I have mainly been using khanacademy to prepare, but I would like to use both if I could benefit from it. Taking the December SAT. I started preparing in September, and my overall score only improved from a 1240 to a 1300. I have taken two of the six possible practice tests.
how accurate is the barrons new sat reading workbook?
I’m starting to prepare to take the SAT for the first time (I’m a Junior), and am trying to decide which books to get.
I took the PSAT this year and got a 1440 (750 on reading/writing, and 690 on math). So I’m especially looking for a thorough overview of the math (along with helpful strategies/tips).
I’ve heard great things about John Chung for the old SAT, but I haven’t seen it recommended much for the new one (Amazon reviews seem to indicate that the new edition doesn’t fully reflect the changes in the redesigned SAT). Here is my tentative list of books:
The College Panda’s SAT Math: Advanced Guide and Workbook for the New SAT
The College Panda’s SAT Writing: Advanced Guide and Workbook for the New SAT
The Critical Reader, 2nd Edition
I’m also considering “Dr. John Chung’s New SAT Math” instead of the College Panda’s Math book.
I’d really appreciate any comments and suggestions. So far I’m feeling very nervous about my choices, and it would be great if y’all would help me out here.
Hey guys, what book would you suggest for a ~700 scorer on reading section looking to improve to the high 700’s (THe Critical Reader?) thank you!
Are there any practice tests you would recommend other than the 6 official ones?
I also found college Panda to be close to the CB tests.
I’m scoring in the 600s and I’m also looking for books for RW. The Critical Reader seems nice because there is a lot of tutelage, but no practice tests.
Can anybody recommend a reading and/or writing book that has more practice tests? (Similar to how Dr. Jung’s math book has 20 tests)
@risubu here is an IES book with 10,but I’m not sure about accuracy.
Ivy global also has a good amount
Barron’s does not have the right type of questions for R (some of the passages don’t even have a single evidence question), but their math is pretty good.
