SAT Books? Do not start new threads. Post HERE!

Khan Academy worked very well . . . barely touched the other prep books.

What was your increase @glido

  • 150 from practice test to 2nd SAT, + 80 from first SAT to 2nd SAT (+40 EBR and +40 M)

My DC is going to be using the APE SAT books. I will post back after their results.

What books do you recommend?
I joined Princeton weekly classes few weeks ago and my SAT score is 1200.
I just have 3 months to prepare for my Final SAT test. Please guide me.
btw Im international student who does decent on math and not that well on english.
I want 1400+ if possible with practice.

I would recommend the Ivy Global to help better understand the material. The book comes with 3 practice tests. For additional practice, College Board has released 8 practice tests, though my daughter states that they are a bit on the easy side. Suggest taking timed practice tests on all, and reviewing all questions that were problematic. Best of luck!

@ThinkOn So the Global Ivy books have questions that are closest to the questions on the real test? S19 has been practicing with the Meltzer books for Reading and Writing and he said the questions in those books are super easy. Gets them all correct. He took his second practice College Board SAT today and scored only 10 points higher for reading/writing after spending maybe 15 hours studying (680 to 690). I really thought he would go up more than that. The test he took today was curved a bit differently. He got more questions wrong than on the first test but scored a little higher.

Guess I’m just looking for advice on finding questions to practice before taking any more practice tests. Don’t want to use up all eight official tests too soon!

@happyrunner are the tests on Kahn exactly the same as the College Board practice tests? We’ve been using those but, if Kahn’s are different, I should have my S19 use those as well. Seems to have served you well!

@ Homerdog That is what my D indicated and she scored about the same on the Global Ivy tests as she did on the College Board ones. But there’s only 3 tests available in that book, but I still think it might be worth the purchase. Good luck!

Announcements:

  1. Mike Barrett's Black Book for the New SAT has been released and is available to purchase on Amazon (among others).
  2. Within the next month or so, Erica Meltzer is releasing the 4th edition of The Ultimate Guide to Grammar for the SAT and the 3rd edition of The Critical Reader for SAT. These books will have stylistic changes, refinements, and an updated correlation chart to all 8 of College Board's Official Released Practice Tests.

How is the new sat black book?

@guyfurious I looked over it more thoroughly. Some don’t like the tips and tricks approach but the information is very accurate and helpful. Even reading through part of one section could increase your score. It’s good for anyone at any stage during their SAT prep. Whether he or she is looking to hit a state college minimum or a National Merit qualifying score.

I’m looking at the College Panda Math book. The Amazon listing and the copyright page give a copyright date of 2015. But the Amazon listing and the front of the book say it’s updated for the new SAT, which wasn’t offered until 2016. Is this book actually current for the upcoming SAT’s?

@millie210 Yes, it is for the New SAT.

Hi guys am new here will be taking SAT 2018.i need study materials, your recommendation will go a long way…you can chat me up on whatsapp 08108939083 for further help.

Hi Guys,

I’m an international student taking the upcoming December SAT. I need some advice please.

My last score on the SAT was 1270 with 630 in English and 640 in Math. My goal score is 1400+ .

My current book list is :
PWN The SAT: Math Guide 4th Edition (for Math Section)
The Complete Guide to SAT Reading by Erica Meltzer, Second Edition (for Reading Section)

I’m looking for a 3rd book that covers everything at once, kind of like a support book, that would also quickly cover the writing and language section.
I’m hesitating between Kallis’ SAT Pattern Book and Barron’s New SAT book.

What do you recommended between those last 2 books? Do you guys have any experience / advice to share for these books?

@MethodMan Have you considered Ivy Global. We haven’t tried the Kallis, but we found the Barron’s to contain some errors and the reading section not very aligned with the types of questions covered in the SAT Books (not my observation, but my kids’). They indicated that the Ivy Global material was helpful and the 3 tests provided therein are pretty close to the real thing. Good luck!

Need help for my son who is bombing his first practice tests on the math section of the SAT. I see Dr Chung mentioned here a lot but on Amazon it looks dated (did he write a revised book for the New SAT?) All the reviews are from like 2013 and 14. Could anyone here recommend what Dr Chung book to get, with exact title? And I’m looking for help on regular SAT Math section, not the subject test.

Also Ivy Global for SAT Math – does it have detailed explanations in its answer key? My son has college board book but the explanations are really curt and virtually unhelpful. Need a source that will help him recognize question type easily/quickly and then shows in detail the method with the fewest written steps to the answer. What book does the best job on this?

Has anyone tried the new Kaplan SAT Total Prep 2018 book? I looked at it and it seems good, but the reviews are very vague. I really need a new SAT book asap so please respond if you have used it.
