@marshtmelt that is an excellent improvement congratulations!

Thanks @Isaac6108 it is tough but doable. I still need to get my math and critical reading up because the writing was what inflated my grade. What do you guys recommend for those specific subjects? Is dr chungs helpful?

A lot of people seem not to realize that the “Blue Book” not only has 10 official SAT practice tests but also extensive critical reading, math, and writing lessons with numerous example problems and exercises to help students really enhance their SAT skills and scores.

All of this excellent teaching material can be found before the practice tests in the “Blue Book.”

I’d also highly recommend getting the answers and explanations to all of the official SAT practice test problems so you can see the rationales for both correct and incorrect responses and really learn from them.

I have College Board’s official answers and explanations to all of the problems from the 10 SAT practice tests. Unfortunately, I don’t think they’re available anymore. However, there are other companies that have published their own answers and explanations; I just don’t know the quality of these publications.

@thinkbigsat all the answers and explanations to practice problems are online on CollegeBoard’s website. As for the Blue Book’s lessons I’m sure anyone who bought the book has taken some time to read those.

Khan Academy has great videos that address math concepts you might of forgotten. Chomp Chomp is useful when dealing with grammar.

Definitely just use the Official College Board SAT prep book (“the big blue book”) and just take all of the practice test inside. Practice makes perfect.
And this worked for me. I just checked all of the ones I got wrong and I started getting less and less of them wrong.

Hey its my first time for SAT. Is it possible of getting good in it?

Does anyone here have Erica Meltzer’s “The Critical Reader”? Is it worth buying?

Asad,

It’s a really good book, though it is a bit expensive. I had it delivered two weeks ago. I think she goes into much more detail than most of the other big books, and her sample passages/questions are really close to the real thing.

If you really need help with CR and have the time and self-study skills to work through it, go for it.

I have to say, I’ve been spending a lot of time on the Black Book and Essential 500, and I find it’s methods highly effective. I’ve gotten more from reading one page in each than from the whole Princeton Review.

Essential 500, isn’t that just like a vocab list?

I would also like to hear more about the Critical Reader. What’s special about it? How does it help you?

@ Issac6108

It has pretty much every word that is used in a significant way in the SAT, and gives you the definition by relating it to real time events. Their are chapters used for sentence completion and passage questions also. It’s mainly for Critical Reading.

I don’t think The Critical Reader is worth the money. There’s really no proper way to ‘study’ for the CR section. But you can get a feel of how the CR section works to see what to expect through practice tests.

If I have the bluebook and 500 essentials does that cover enough grammar if not what grammar books would you recomd to go along with those? and Also is the essentials 500 enough for vocab or should I look for more vocab too

Are there any excellent books for improving grammar?

Eh,just saw it. Thank you very much. Is Princeton Review good enough for grammar practice?

Hi I am going to be a junior in high school and am wondering when the best time would be to take the SAT, considering I am taking the most difficult possible schedule and have a lot of activities, including a winter sport. I want to start studying this summer and want to know the best books to help maximize my score. I scored a 2160 on the PSAT (670 CR/690 M/800 W) without any prep and before taking precalc and am looking for a near perfect score on the SAT. I know I will get the official college board prep book but I was wondering what other books I should get. Should I get the Kaplan 2400? The Larry 500? I am really not worried about the writing section since my grammar is exceptional but would like to know more vocal words and practice with math questions. Should I get a book focused on SAT math as well? I have already been preparing for the math 2 subject test. Thanks!

I found a Gruber’s 2e and one that doesn’t say 2e… What’s the difference? Are both good?

Can you please explain how you used “chomp chomp” in your SAT study plan?
