I'm going to be a senior, took the SAT twice and the scores were not so great.
1st time, January:
CR: 410
Math: 460
WR:500
2nd time, May:
CR: 400
Math: 460
WR: 480

Now I decided to take the SAT in October so I want some opinions regarding my study methods
-I'm learning 10 words everyday from Direct Hits
-Practice from Kaplan Math Workbook
-Practice from Kaplan Critical Reading Workbook
Thats what I've doing everyday started from 3 days ago.
I also have some other books:
-College Board (Bluebook)
-Barron's Math Workbook
-Barron's Aiming for 2400
-Princeton Reviews Cracking the SAT
-Princeton Reviews 11 Practice Tests

I would really appreciate tips or other study methods that I can apply with my current resources. (I am aiming for a score above 1600)

Practice out of the Blue Book. 10 official SATs should be more than enough to raise you above 1600. If you’re really bad with vocab then keep memorizing words along with BB practice.

Dude, take the ACT. So much easier.

I am in that kind of situation right now. I got a TERRIBLE score on my SAT, mainly because i was never motivated. But now i am. It is a great thing that you have a plethora of study materials. Keep on studying those, and i have a great feeling you will get the score you want. Me, i have finite study materials. I have both DH, Gruber’s book (for math), and the BB. I’ll describe what i’m doing, and it can help others:
Vocab - I made flashcards out of ALL the DH words, separated each chapter and put different colors for those words. I get really intimidated if i see so many words because it will just be tedious. I try to make learning words “fun”, and it is working right now. I study ~36 word per day.

Reading - I read Silverturtle’s threat about how to attack it, and it works for me. I MAKE myself LOVE the passage, no matter how boring it is. Just read that thread and it might work for you. On the last BB section reading i did, i only missed 4, so i am greatly improving.

Math - I am reading Gruber’s for this one. This was my worst section, but i am feeling confident that i can get a 630+ on this section, just with more practice.

Writing - I simply read Sparknote’s tips, and yesterday i did a practice section on writing and i missed 12. It’s not impressive, but it is much better than what i got before. Also, the SAT just shows typical errors, like subject-verb agreement, not the right idiomatic expressions, etc.

For all sections, you need to get answer explanations to tell you what you are doing wrong.

Jordan I think we’re studying the same way, hopefully we’ll get good scores. When do you think I should start practicing from the bluebook?

I really don’t think you guys should buy books. (I have about 20 SAT prep books from all different companies, and I’m serious, I never opened about 15 of them).

But anyway this is what I would use (or borrow from the library)
-BB
-PR tests for more practice -suggest when you hit around 1500 when you do this
-Barron CR workbook (great help, raised my score about 100 points)
-Barron 2400 (Great CR and writing I heard)

I don’t know about math since I always get high 600s. So I can’t help you on that.

But yeah, don’t waste about 300 dollars buying these books. They are really not worth it.

Oh yeah and I just got 5 more SAT books. Let’s add on to the collection… /:

Get Gruber’s for math. Its great for reviewing and learning the concepts on the SAT’s for your score

@Gleek
I think you should start practicing with the blue book when you think you are ready for any section–Math, Writing or CR. But first get lots of review before going to the BB because you don’t want to waste any section on something you don’t really know. However, save some BB tests for when you want to take the full test, not simply sections.
P.S. we will get great scores. So far my CR has increased 100 points and W 130 points. I will leave math for last.
Good luck :)

True the BB must used with precision and prudence and that’s what I’m planning to do. Another thing is that Dorkyelmo suggested PR practice tests, some people don’t recommend doing practice tests other than from the bluebook. Are PR practice closest to the actual college board than Kaplan’s or Barron’s?
