So I heard that the SAT will be changed to focus on "core standards." Will the change take place this Fall, or is there no set date yet? And if it does change this Fall, would it be better for me to take the June SAT, even though I think I'm not ready?

The only time reference I’ve seen is that the changes will occur “by 2014,” which could imply this fall. I would be very surprised if that were the case, though, as the College Board has been vague on the matter and it takes much time to significantly change anything about such a large, careful project. You should be fine to wait.

Here is a verbatim statement that the College Board sent to its members on February 23 and David Coleman, head of CB, thereafter in an interview mentioned 2014:

“In the months ahead, the College Board will begin an effort in collaboration with its membership to redesign the SAT® so that it better meets the needs of students, schools, and colleges at all levels. We will develop an assessment that mirrors the work that students will do in college so that they will practice the work they need to do to complete college. An improved SAT will strongly focus on the core knowledge and skills that evidence shows are most important to prepare students for the rigors of college and career. This is an ambitious endeavor, and one that will only succeed with the leadership of our Board of Trustees, the strong coordination of our councils and committees, and the full engagement of our membership.”

Personal guess is that you won’t see it before March 2014.

Alright I guess I’ll hold off on taking it then.

It is not likely to happen this Fall, but probably next Spring. They’ve recalled the BB 3rd edition last month which may be related to this.
