SAT cheating investigation!

Is it true if you have a huge increase on ur SAT's CB is going to look more in depth at it? i.e. someone who got an 1800 and jumps to a 2300+

that sucks if you really study for it and you messed up the first time!

Doubt it unless the proctor reports thoughts of someone cheating.

Either way, if you don’t cheat and your score improves that much, what are they gonna do? Delay your scores

hmm i heard they may make you retake it : /

I highly doubt you would ever have to retake it for that or that they would even do anythign, but if you improved significantly say from like a 500 in math to an 800

and they inspected and didnt find any work in your math section they may cancel it, thats the only thing i could think of that would happen

Just because they investigate it doesn’t mean they cancel it. They need solid proof in order to do something as drastic as cancel a score.

ETS will put your test up for review if you have a score increase of 400+. Basically, they compare your handwriting to your previous administration, and look for differences to see if someone else took the test in your place during the second administration. Another thing they look for is if your answers are very similar to the students that were seated in close proximity to you at the test center. If ETS finds evidence of either of the above, they will notify you of your testing irregularities, a euphemism that basically means you cheated.

They can make you retest, probably under stricter surveillance. I believe this happened in a movie about AP Calculus at a HS in LA.

EDIT: The movie is Stand and Deliver.

I believe they also did that to Brandon Jennings, if you know who that is.

^ yeah i do.

thanks for the responses thus far guys.
ugh, that really sucks. i hate ETS. i think this may prompt me to take the ACT.

Be careful with the ACT, though. The one time I took it, I became so aggravated that I decided to scrap any thoughts of a second attempt. If you can’t handle its bad time constraints, you should stick to the SAT.

You are not going to take the SATs because you don’t want to be under investigation if you jump 500 points?

To be blunt, there is absolutely no way in hell you can go from an 1800 to a 2300.

^Eh, I am not so sure about that. However, I will give you the benefit of the doubt until I get my results back next fall. :D

I think if one studies over the summer then it is possible for that person to get a significant increase compared to the previous score.

Now I think ETS has every right to investigate the matter but as the article stated, they require people nearby to have very similar answer patterns and/or a different handwriting on the oath you signed and on the essay.

I doubt that even if you get a 2400, without cheating, you’ll meet both scenarios to qualify for score cancellation. If you do, perhaps you can retake, get something close to the score and ask them to reinstate the previous score if it was higher.

But good luck! I got something in the 1800 range as well, yet I took it in my Sophomore year so I’m hoping for a much higher score when I take it again next year, with a lot more studying of course.

i don’t want to deal with the hassle of CB’s investgations and possible score delays, perhaps?
and did you not read my last statement? i severely messed up the first time, resulting in said 1800. besides, i’ve been getting in the late 2200s for practice tests.

thanks mr. wheezy. good luck to u and rmadden15!

So just because I got a 1780 one time means it wouldn’t be possible to break 2000+, and if I did, I probably cheated? That’s absurd.

It would be better to be investigated and get a 2300 then to accept an 1800 and do nothing.

I don’t think a lot of you are getting the point here. Just because you have a huge score increase doesn’t AUTOMATICALLY mean you cheated. All they’re gonna do is check for evidence of cheating. If you didn’t get someone else to take the test for you, and if you didn’t copy off someone else in the test room, or vice versa, then you have nothing to worry about.

“A little-known ETS rule calls for an automatic investigation if a student’s combined math and verbal score improves by 350 points or more from one test to the next.”

The College board takes a long time to process investigations (I’m under investigation for AP tests right now). If you took the SAT senior year it could take beyond the deadline for them to resolve the issue. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to retake it because you assume you’ll make a 350 point jump in M+CR.

anything is possible

i had 179 on psat junior year
had 2200 on real sat

dont let psat or past sat scores worry you, just keep workin and youll be fine
