I took the SAT's in october and i cheated off of the kid who sat diagonal to me on the left (he sat in front of the kid sitting on my left) and like an idiot i copied a lot of his test and like an idiot i skipped about 90% of the same ones he skipped. I didn't get my scores back and my parents called the SAT Test center to see what was wrong and they told my parents my scores had gone up enough to become flagged. The proctor of our room did not have a seating chart, nor check for I.D.'s. Does anybody have any advice for me?!

I think the problem with your post is that you don’t feel bad about cheating, you feel bad about not cheating very well. Nobody here is going to give you advice because we don’t like people who cheat. At least learn to admit your real mistake and repent for it.

From an objective perspective, your scores have been delayed due to a high increase, not because they directly suspect you of cheating. Nonetheless, they will notice, and if the pattern is as similar as you state it is, you are in a big hole.

God wow. If you’re going to cheat, at least cover your damn tracks.

All I’m going to say is “gg” and that you better pray that they don’t do anything.

wow haha. They caught you. They’ll find out someone at a school you took it at had very similar answers. Yeah, take it as a lesson learned: You don’t want to **** around with Collegeboard. From what I hear they will give you 2 options: 1) Cancel the score. 2) Retake it and if you score similarly to your high score, you get to keep your score.

But yeah, you’re not even sorry you cheated. You should cancel the test yourself imo if you are sorry about cheating.

EDIT: And um, no offense, but you’re almost in college. Pick up the phone yourself. No need to have your parents call. I’m sure you know how to dial Collegeboard’s number yourself.

Oh, no guys I feel completely awful about this and i’m scared for my life here. I dont even know what to do and I didn’t have a chance to call because my parents called nearly a week before i even thought about it. They said my scores went up enough to be flagged and they dont have a seating chart of who sat near me and there were some kids from different schools in my exam room. I feel sick to my stomach and my parents just never thought i’d be that type of kid to do that but i felt so much pressure that I had to do well to get into a good school and i handled that pressure all wrong. Does anyone else have an idea of what the collegeboard might do?

They will review your answers and will find the other kids answers computers can process a lot of data these days. When they see that theyre statistically similar theyll withhold your scores, send you a letter that, while not accusing you of cheating, will offer you a chance to retake the test. Thats your best alternative. You can appeal, hire a lawyer if you like, go to arbitration, whatever, but youll loose.

How do I know? The exact same thing happened to a co-workers kid last spring though not because he cheated or so he says. He had a rise in scores above the norm and they said his answers matched another testers answers too closely. (Lucky for him the college already had his previous scores and admitted him based on those.)

Basically, expect a letter from CB soon. Plan to retake the test and this time do it yourself…

Did he have to meet with his guidance counselor or principle and talk to them about the whole issue?

Obvious ■■■■■ here.

Yes, he met with them. They supported him 100% but there was not much they could do.

Also of note; CB asked the school to retract all of his scores if they had already been sent to colleges. (He had not told CB to send any.) As it was spring, they chose to wait and see and it became moot when he was accepted and the college said not to worry about it.

slightly off topic: seriously, though- if you work your butt off for the sat and your score increases by quite a bit, they can take it away from you?!?!?!? =[ that sounds kind of unfair

as for footballer515, sticky situation. =[ i hope you learn from this mistake and do not cheat in the future. nothing in this world is worth sacrificing your intergrity!

I’ve heard it only happens for increases of 500 or more points. If you’re a 2000 student and you get a 2200/2300, it won’t be that big. If you’re a 1600 student who pulls off a 2350, expect a letter.

well they didn’t tell me my scores but i’m just hoping to god they dont check since they dont have a seating chart. I mean they will most likely check everybody’s answers with mine so i’m basically done for

If you have an increase of more than 250 points in any given section, or an increase in M+V of more than 350 points, than College Board will flag your scores.

The College Board is all-knowing. How on earth did you expect to get away with that? Everyone feels pressure when they take the SAT, but cheating is about the dumbest thing you could do on that test. Good luck, I suppose.

You are saying the your parents are calling them. But the obvious question would be did you tell your parents that you cheated?

I am not sure, but this states that College Board lost their case and had to drop “flagging” scores ._.

That refers to the practice of reporting that a certain score was obtained with some Collegeboard-sanctioned accommodation (extra time, large print, that kind of stuff). Which isn’t the issue here.

hi… ummm this has nothing to do with the conversation right now but i saw that a lot of people were in here and replying… i need help… i submitted my UC application and i requested for them to bill me…i don’t want my application to be delayed so do i pay now or wait for the bill?

I know that everybody will hope i get punished and that cheating on the SAT’s was the worst decision i’ve ever made in my life…I hope people still hope for the best for me. I’ll keep you guys posted on what happens

what ended up happening?
