Hi guys, I am in a bit of a dilemma here. I took SAT chem this previous June and received a 700. I thought this score was great! Fair enough. I will be applying to Ivy League's.... so is 700 really sufficient for Ivy's or should i retake and aim for a 750+? Honestly, I don't think I can study that material again >_<.

For Ivy League... 700 is LOW. You normally need 85 percentile plus, which is about 760-770.

And even then - you need superb grades, excellent ECs, steady grades, recommendations, etc.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that's the truth. :(

don't listen to him. 700 is fine. i know a friend of mine who got in Ivy league with SAT II scores like you. instead of studying for the chem sat, just work on ur applications and essays which would serve you better in the long term.

im still a rising junior. I guess i can just try to focus on other subject tests like math and spanish.

700 is not much higher than the average chem score. I would retake :)

mann, ok, i think i ll just forget about it. I ll just take 3 more SAT subject tests and try my best on those.. Although the 700 wont help me.. it wont hurt me either right? So i guess it's neutral.

700 is pretty good, and if paired with other high test scores is quite sufficient -- for the Subject Tests, the group who takes chem is very self-selected, so though the percentile may not look wonderful, the score is good.

And 700 looks a lot better than 690, I think, just in the many schools (such as MIT) say anything beginning with a '7' is good enough.

Think about the schools that require subject tests. Those who take SAT II are highly self selective.

If you have enough time, do retake, if not leave it like that. As ^^^^ said, 700>>>>>699

You're all getting his hopes up. Agreed, that a 700 will not hurt his chances. Agreed, that if he has an unusually strong GPA and essay to back him up, he will definitely have a good chance.

But there is no way in hell that a 700, all by itself, is good enough for an Ivy League or MIT. I would try to get a 750+ in two subject tests if I were OP.

Almost every CCer gets 700+ and most of them 750+. Yet, not everyone on these boards gets an admission to an Ivy League.

I am sorry if I'm being rude or arrogant. These are just my points of view.

^ And a lot of people on CC are not people you would want to be living with on a college campus. A lot of the CC people with the heralded 750+ scores are rejected in favor of an applicant with 100 points lower scores that shows an awesome personality and superb intellect in ways besides a test.

Colleges don't like testwhores. Don't re-take it.
