I’ve been preparing to the SAT as an international student from Canada. I was under the impression that it would cost $40-50 to take the SAT. However, while I was looking over the registrations section on the CB website, I noticed that there was an extra $35 fee for taking the SAT in Canada… bringing up the cost of taking the SAT with the essay to $92.
Am I correct in making this calculation? This is severely impacting my earlier plan of taking the SAT twice.
Is it possible for international students to get a SAT Fee Waiver?
If you’re poor you get a fee waiver. If you’re taking the SAT at a test center at a DoDEA high school, you get a fee waiver. Any other person taking the test outside of the US pays a fee waiver. Can you cross the border and take the test in a border city? Detroit? Buffalo?
According to the Collegeboard, “SAT fee waivers are available to low-income 11th and 12th grade students in the U.S. or U.S. territories. U.S. citizens living outside the U.S. may be able to have test fees waived. SAT Subject Test fee waivers are available for students in grades nine through 12.”
From the looks of it, it seems you’re only eligible if you’re a US citizen. If you really wanna make sure, call CB or talk to your counselor. Maybe someone here who knows can give a more accurate answer, though.
